Great post. JL showed promise last night. If he goes on to finish the year strong, it will be an amazing example of the right attitude and perseverance. And I hope an example for the LSU fans who booed him and were calling for him to transfer.
I think we should see a better Lee next week because he should be practicing with the 1st team now. I think a lot of his penalties can be attributed to that. I do think JJ should still see a little bit of time, not as a starter. He had the long TD run, and for the most part the running game runs smoothly under Jefferson. I'm not saying Lee can't do it, but Lee might not be the same "option threat" that Jefferson is.
Oh trust me. I fully acknowledge that Lee has A LOT to improve on. But the guy came off of the bench and was asked to throw the ball 23 times in 1 game, when he had only thrown it 40 total times last year, and lead us down the field. Yes he made some stupid plays, but he also completed some clutch passes that otherwise would have ended the game. Overall everyone should give the man a little praise today, and then back to business tomorrow. I can think of few others that actually deserve a little praise more than him after all he's went through.
Given all the success we've had with the QB option, some of us may not be sorry to see that play leave the gameplan!!! :geauxtige
Tennessee was lucky in many cases on Saturday (including unforced errors by LSU and penalties like a facemask call that was correct but just a totally random event by a hustling young football player). LSU didn't win just because of that one play. Tennessee was clearly in the wrong. Had they handled their business while LSU floundered like lost children in a sandlot game, they win. They didn't. So LSU wins. I don't like the method either. But Tennessee DID NOT deserve to win that game because LSU dominated them from whistle to whistle. The box score does not lie. 10 penalties, a 4-0 turnover margin, and LSU still held them to 14 points and 217 yards offense.
Sorry, will delete that word from my vocabulary. I'm looking at the context of our entire game plan. We alternated QBs all day, which is not a strategy I agree with. But since we did, I think when you get down to the wire like that, you go with the guy who gives you your best chance in the situation. Had the timing worked out so it had been "JJ's drive", I would hope Miles would have subbed in JL on that 4th and 14 play, because I would have no confidence that JJ could have made the throw. Now let me hypothetical you: CLM names Lee the starter for the FU game today. He practices as the #1 all week, plays the whole game, and in the end faces the same situation: no time outs, :35 seconds left on the 2 with the game on the line. At that point, no way do I sub him.
Face it kids, Lee is talent that has not come to fruition. I saw him play in 2006 against Lamar here in Houston and in the State Championship against Texas City. I thought he played great. Both games were losses but not because of him. He was the 12 rated H.S. Q.B. when he came out. My beef is where did all that prospective talent go and why does he make such bad decisions? I will eat every bad word I have written about him if Florida beats us by less than 14 points. What really scares me is how bad are we going to get beat by Alabama and Arkansas. One of those boys better step up quickly.
Lee is our best QB on our roster and gives us the best chance to win...period. Hopefully he gets better with reps. He threw some great passes, the long pass down the sideline was a pass Jefferson could not make. The 3rd down and 4th down completions were huge. Maybe the best throw was the one out of the back of the end zone on 1st down when no one was open. Jj would have taken a sack. He gives us a chance, jj gives us no shot. I am happy he is getting a shot.
That was pretty much Lee's season opener. Yeah he made mistakes. Like everyone else has pretty much said NO LEE..NO WIN
