Just trying to figure out, if history is an indicator, what chance Jarrett Lee has of achieving success at LSU. What recent college QBs can you recall that had godawful first years like Lee, but then turned things around to achieve excellence? Seems like the trend for the last generation's QBs is you either start out good and get better, or you start out bad and stay bad. :tigerhead
At some point this season, it seems like I read or heard that Lee was on track to end up with a better frosh season than Tommy Hodson, as an example of how players scale up - obviously not "recent", but worth asking the gurus for validation and discourse...
I think Hodson was All-SEC as a freshman and maybe All-American. Hodson 1986 - 175-288, 2,261 yards, 19 TDS 1987 - 162-265, 2,125 yards, 15 TDS 1988 - 154-293, 2,074 yards, 13 TDS 1989 - 183-317, 2,655 yards, 22 TDS
the comparison i have heard all year is matt stafford, but to be honest, i didnt think stafford had a great year this year, or last. It seems like Stafford had the game of his life against us this season, and every other game he has been a decent quarterback at best. i hope Lee gets better but honestly i dont want to see him play again unless we are desperate, with Jefferson getting more reps in practice, and a legit chance to earn the starting position next season, and Sheppard, (if he is given a chance to play quarterback), i really could care less if i ever see Lee take the field again.
I saw one person make a Peyton Manning comparison, pointing out that Peyton threw 28 interceptions as a rookie.
Nah, let's not make the NFL comparison. Really a different ballgame. Plus Peyton threw 28 picks because he started for a talent-less team that went 3-13 the previous year. Jarret Lee had talent all around him. On the other hand, it does seem the NFL is trending toward first-year QBs being thrown in and doing well: See Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco. Still, I doubt we'll ever see Jarrett Lee suiting up in the NFL.
