yep. not to mention all of the foreigners coming to the US to play. i'm not really against that because it makes for a better game to have the best of the best, but it reallllllllly makes it tough to cut it in the big leagues.

there was also a stat about the how the top picks have flopped in the last few years. Not just a percentage thing.

Nope, it was Mark Roman, I don't think TJ was from the Berry.

    again, kinda mis-leading.
in baseball, the top pick is rarely the best player.
teams pick guys that they think they' be able to sign, rather than who is the best prospect.

So you end up with a guy that should be a mid-1st rounder going #1 overall just because he'll be cheap.

i think a big part of the lower success rate of MLB draftees compared to other sports (fball and basketball) is that baseball relies more on skill than the others. and every position requires a high ratio of skill to athletic ability. so while there are many--

hershel walkers and jevon kearses and champ baileys that can come in right away and dominate in nfl (and this goes for most positions)

    and

moses malones, derrick roses and kevin durants that can come in right away and dominate nba (again goes for most positions)

for baseball not so much---every once in a while youll get a kid that can dominate (yount, gooden) but usually it takes them several years in the minors and pros to develop the skills to become great.

This is remotely off topic, but it's about Mitchell partly. A week or two ago, Kyle Petersen called Mitchell probably "the fastest college baseball player in the country." This speaks miles about the speed we have on our football team if this guy is not even in the top 5, and probably not in the top 10 fastest on the football team by my estimation.
