Aren't the salaries all pretty close and based on at which level they are playing? I seem to remember that great majority of their money comes from the signing bonus, and their salaries really aren't very high.

I imagine a lot of people here will make 1.4 mil in their lifetime. The difference is he will make it in one day, while it will take most of us 20-30 years.

Congrats Mitchell. He was projected around the slot he was chosen. He has a high on base percentage but is not very aggresive at the plate and doesn't seem to adjust his swing with a two strike count. Batting instructors will have their work cut out but I hope the best for him.

I agree, but he is still very raw. He sometimes closes his stance when he swings, too. Splitting time with football may have cost him in this regard (though obviously not too much, going 23rd overall), but he does have all the tools.

I know some of the really high picks make close to MLB money, regardless of what level they're playing.
The rest don't make a ton. A lot of minor leaguers get jobs in the offseason because they dam sure ain't getting rich.

their signability is a big part of where they are drafted. in other words, much more talented guys are falling to better teams because they are willing to sign them for big money. thus, nullifying the purpose of slotting in the first place.

been this way for years actually. teams like the yanks and sox spend their money here as much as they do in free agency. making scott boras an even richer man.

    tory james, yo?

That was 1.4 mil just for a signing bonus for #23 and in 2006. You can bet that the signing bonus has risen and that the first year pay brings it well over 1.4 Like I said, not many here will make in a lifetime what he makes his first year.

Most people barely if ever get to a couple million in their lifetime and that's what Mitchell will probably get total for year one if not more. I'm sure there are quite a few here that will make that much in their life but most will not. Hopefully after the 3rd post some of the slower learners will realize he will make much more than 1 mil in year one.
