Why would LSU only offer 12 scholarships to Louisiana seniors if the state is that loaded... CParso or some of you experts explain that to me.... Do the coaches have 8 out of state players that they rate higher than the number 13 thru 20 in staters.. With LSU's lack of success with the real high profile national recruits this past year it just worries me that they (we) may lose some great home state recruits while pursuing long shots.. Opinions please....
Maybe it's not that loaded...? Rivals tends to have "group think". Apparently... Lack of success? We got 4 from Texas, 4 from Florida, 2 from Georgia, and one from Tennessee. Of course we didn't get everybody we went after - nobody ever does. We will pursue long-shots, but not at the expense of Louisiana guys. You always hedge your bets in recruiting. There are 12 Louisiana guys the coaches really want. The rest may or may not be worth of a scholarship from LSU, but obviously the coaches feel that it's worth the risk of trying to get better guys from out of state. Talented players leave the state every year. We cannot take them all. As long as we get the ones we want, it doesn't matter.
These guys have LSU offers thus far: Mike Brockers, DE Texas Nico Johnson, MLB Alabama A.J. McCarron, QB Alabama Jarvis Jones, SLB Georgia Dre Kirkpatrick, CB Alabama
I think we have to land a couple of 5 star studs out of state for that to happen, but I think that will happen and that we will indeed finish top 5 with only 19-23 recruits.
I don't think we'll have a top 5 class next year because of the numbers. Our class ranking completely depends on how many we sign. We will be in the top 5 for average star ranking though. It's very, very early, but I will guess LSU ends up with three 5 stars, twelve 4 stars, and the rest 3 stars.
I think its gonna be real hard for LSU to get a top five recruiting class in the future unless we sign about 30. Why? Meyer, Sabin, Fisher, Ritch, Brooks, Spurrer, just to name a few... I know we have to offer out of state players but pulling a 4-5 star recruit from outa state is just gonna be harder in the future.. Thats why its gonna be real important to get all the good instate players & evaluate the lower rated plums & not miss on anybody.. For instance - how many recruits that were still available after LSU won the national championship did we get? we were in on about 6-8 players -(National recruits for sure) & we got two (Johnson & Shaw) I think... Everybody wants to play right now, especially the big recruits.. Just my thoughts what's yours?
But we had 23 commits before we won the title...and 2 of the remaining spots were from La. kids that we knew we were getting. That left 1 and possibly 2 maximum spots for OOS kids. We got 1 of them (Shaw)...and the other was not even remotely interested in doing what it took to qualify. It's too late in the game by the time a team wins a BCS NC to expect a huge influx of players.
