The plan was that Mike Pence would be scared enough to run away from the certification, causing constitutional crisis and chaos within which trump would declare martial law. When Pence held his ground trump then didn't have the justification necessary, but days later some republicans still insisted upon seizing the government by military force.
I remember when the conspiracy theory was that Obama was going to enact martial law because crazy people thought the same thing. My question, is if trump is this fascist nazi that wanted to do nothing but rule over the United States of Trump, why didn’t he enact martial law and execute his detractors?
That's a fair question. It boils down to his realization that nobody who has a close working relationship really likes him; and that was particularly true of General Milley, who was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Martial law required the military, our military understood that he's a piece of shit narcissist, trump knew that they didn't like him, so trump needed a constitutional reason to justify it in their eyes. Mike Pence would have given that to him.
