On point 1...Trump had already seen 60 or so lawsuits contesting the election results fail. He had already had his own AG, Bill Barr, tell him pointedly that there was no evidence of widespread fraud as Trump alleged. His own VP had already informed him that he did not possess the legal authority to contest the election. Trump knew that the time for "revisiting the votes" was long passed. January 6th was the last hope for his keeping power. So it was not a "complicated political maneuver." The time for such actions were long since passed. On point 2...those MAGA kooks spent the morning being whipped into a frenzy by Mo Brooks, Madison Cawthorn, Rudy Giulinani and Trump himself. Pretending that their actions were unrelated is disingenuous. Now we are learning from first hand accounts that Trump was watching the entire thing unfold on TV and I suspect as the justice department and January 6th commission get closer to presenting their findings and/or pressing charges, we will learn even more. Of course 300 or so clowns cannot overthrow the country. There were not trying to overthrow the country they were trying to intimidate members of congress into not doing their job: certifying the election.
