The intent was to muddy the water and create a Constitutional crisis. By definition, a Constitutional crisis means there are no clear rules for power and legitimacy. That exactly what Benedict Donald wanted. There would be no need to transfer power to the insurrectionists. As they say, possession is 9/10 of the law.

i see so you believe possession of the capitol building would be 9/10 of the controlling power of the US? a few months after the capitol riots. a black muslim, who presumably wanted a caiphate instead of a free democracy, attacked the capitol. he killed more than the MAGA guys did. are you scared he almost installed a muslim government? if not, will you at least concede he was an insurrectionist?
