I haven't tried any of the products yet but I have plenty of friends who swear by oak groove for seafood boil mixes. What is your take on that one?
I have not tried that one as I usually just use Zatarain's from the big ass jar on the store shelf. But, every single one of their products I have used have been superb. I think I will pick some up next time I am at their facility. By the way, if you are doing a big jambalaya or gumbo or some such, they have fantastic sausage and will cut it up for you. When I go to my big festivals, I frequently have them cut up 100 pounds of pork butt and a hundred pounds of sausage for me. I pick it up on my way through BR. They are located in Prairieville on Old Jefferson Hwy.
I've been hearing radio commercials for the Oak Grove Swampfire seafood boil lately. I haven't tried it but I like their other products. Their fish fry is about the same as the Louisiana fry made by the Tony's people but I used to use one called Cajunland. I haven't seen it for a few years but it was the best. They also had a good seafood boil
http://oakgrovemix.webs.com/ourcontactinfo.htm Ordered some off of Amazon. Stoked about this so I hope it lives up
I just talked to Terri. They are in the same location that they have been in for 45 years. She assured me that they aren't going anywhere
Got that and the dirty rice. I'll try anything once. Saw where they have tonys instant roux. This is worse than roux in a jar. Seriously? Sprinkle and add water?? Fuggoff...
Here is the Cajunland website. I have only tried the boil and the fish fry. Boil is about as good as the others but I highly recommend the fish fry. http://www.cajunlandbrand.com/
The jambalaya is as good as home made They being Oak Grove? Or just in general? I wouldn't think that Oak Grove would sell Tony's products. Those instant roux/gravy mixes are basically just baked flour. Makes it very convenient to thicken things without a flour taste.
