I was thinking the same thing about the Dumb and Dumber reference the first time I read McFarlans's quote.:thumb:
:geaux::crystal::helmet: Agree the secondary is young, but Jones and Eugene have played before and shouldn't be "lost" out on the field. I thought Jones would be farther along this year and he has gotten better as of late. Eugene is another story. I believe he was overrated from the start and he hasn't improved. Last year in the Kentucky game he didn't know where to line up and had to be shown by the other guys on the field. He's also prone to pass interference penalties due to his poor cover skills. I'm hoping Phelon Jones or someone else will make enough progress to put Eugene somewhere else but in the secondary. Peterson is the real deal and is going to be a difference maker in the secondary. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
:geaux::crystal::helmet: I know. It's just unfortunate that for some reason he's not reaching his potential in college yet. Maybe he will before his career is over. I hope so for his and LSU's sake. But at the present time he's not a very dependable member of the LSU secondary. I honestly hope he makes me eat my words for the next three games and the rest of his career. If he does, that'll mean the secondary is in a lot better shape than it is now. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
I just looked back and Rivals had Jai as a 4*, number 12 corner in the nation. Scout had him as a 5*, number 1 corner in the nation. Thats quite the discrepancy.
I wouldn't count out McFarland just yet. Davenport, Mingo and Shepard will be in his ear for an entire week leading up to the US Army game (they are all on the same team). Add to that the very real possibility of getting Coach Orgeron as our D-line coach, and I think that might just be enough to get LSU back in the game. We shall see.
Why would O want the DL job here when he might easily be in line one day for the DC job with the Saints?
You didn't hear the interview with Coach O, about the possible position with LSU? He stated that he really missed traveling to recruits homes, and the challenge of recruiting against other schools. He also said that LSU is his dream job.
