his criticism of jamarcus wasnt a problem. its just thats all he ever does. must be that inferiority complex of joe montana still lingering. i can understand someone enjoying the laid back nature of the M and M boys but at the end of the day, their juvenile antics just get in the way for me. thats right, sparky. only original ideas allowed as your own.
i forgot you were an insufferable know it all. i didn't need a blogger to say shanahan to dallas because its obvious dude. Shanahan was a great quarterbacks coach, who went to Eastern Illinois, the same school Romo attended. Not to mention he was the guy who replaced wade philips in Denver, and it would be ironic if he did it in dallas. If you were half as smart as you think you are, you wouldn't need a blowhard to figure this out, and you also probably could have figured it out earlier than a couple of months ago. Thanks come again.
That's who that was, Steve Young? Well that makes more sense. Steve Young lived in the shadow of Montana, so he's got an inferiority complex about how he didn't get the respect he deserved. So it's not that surprising (although still childish) that he wants to make sure other NFL QB's don't get the respect they deserve, especially QB's trying to win the hearts of the people living in the San Francisco Bay area (like Montana, Young, and JaMarcus all strive for). Yeah, JaMarcus did look really, really horrible in that game -- like a QB that shouldn't be on a high school team, much less an NFL team. And yeah, I didn't have a problem with Young pointing that out, but Young went over-the-top with it, making it sound like JaMarcus always plays like that and should be kicked out of the NFL immediately. But even when he was drafted, JaMarcus' QB ability was always a big question mark, but his physical tools are so off-the-chart that if the light-bulb ever goes on for JaMarcus, he could be a very good NFL QB. So it's hard to blame the Raiders for taking a gamble on him. Will the light-bulb ever go on for JaMarcus? Who knows. But if it ever does, I doubt it will happen during his first two years in the NFL. As for the Raiders, I don't know what they were thinking when they didn't keep Garcia around, at least for JaMarcus to have a veteran NFL QB to learn from, a mentor--if not somebody for JaMarcus to back-up as they work on JaMarcus' QB ability for the future. But as for Young, his comments on JaMarcus went beyond just pointing out the reality that JaMarcus sucked in that game. For example, when JaMarcus went down-field to block, and blew those two guys up, the another announcer, and every lover of football out there, was like "wow -- holy crap -- you see that big QB throwing defenders around like that -- wow!" Then Young tries to shut him up, saying basically "oh, that's normal, every QB does that, they train you to do that." Really, Young? When's the last time you ever went down-field throwing defenders around like JaMarcus did? If anything, coaches train their QB's not to go around throwing blocks or trying to tackle defenders on turnovers... because they don't want their QB to get hurt. For example, against the Lions, Bell fumbles, the Lions pick it up, and Brees was right there in position to make the tackle, but he let the guy run it back for a TD. Yeah, that would have been great had Brees tried to tackle the guy, but I'm not surprised that he didn't. Another example was when JaMarcus went down injured, with what looked like a hyper-extended knee. Young's reply to this was "oh, he's out for 2 to 4 weeks for sure" like Young wanted JaMarcus to be out (which went with Young's whole theme that JaMarcus should be kicked out of the NFL immediately). Anyway, as for JaMarcus' performance in that one game, yeah, it looked like he seriously regressed from last season--and JaMarcus wasn't even that good last season. I went to the a Raiders forum to see what they thought about it, and some of them pointed out that JaMarcus' #1 WR wasn't in the game, that the two WR's in the game were two rookies that he has little chemistry with at this point, and that JaMarcus was looking good throwing it to the TE, who JaMarcus has shown very good chemistry with--they were encouraged by the fact that their #1 WR will be back soon and that JaMarcus' chemistry with the two rookie WRs will get better and better as the season progresses.
actually he looked improved for most of the game then went a good portion throwing some pretty bad incomplete passes where his accuracy was off. other than that, he was about the same. shoddy receivers dropping some easy balls (heyward-bey who sucks) and higgins getting rocked into next week. mcfadden looked rather unimpressive as well but was super impressed with the offensive lines improvement and the tenacity of the defense. i think it was #33 on their defense who was all over the field on runs and in coverage. ill have to check..for my own curiosity.
Yeah, had that Raiders WR (Murphy?) held on to the ball in the endzone (where he lost it as he hit the ground and a lot of people got upset with it being called an incompletion), Raiders would have won and people probably wouldn't have even paid attention to JaMarcus' inaccuracy problems that much. And yeah, that Raiders D looks outstanding. Had the Raider's D been able to step up on that last drive like they did for pretty much the rest of the game, people would be crowning JaMarcus a hero right now. When he hit that TD bomb on 4-and-15 right before that... that was incredible (even with how they pointed out that Chargers secondary completely blew their assignments on that play). I really thought the Raiders had won at that point.
i didnt understand the call. 4th and 15 from your own 37 or whatever. but it worked and i thought they would win as well. then i remembered it was the raiders. they played their LB's 15 yards deep even though a fg tied the game. made no sense. it was higgins who got rocked. the announcing crew said it was murphy at first. the #33 was Tyvon Branch. cornerback out of UCONN. had 9 tackles, 8 were solo with a pass deflection and tackle for loss. i think hes going to be a good one. he held antonio gates in check most of the game. was a 4th round pick in '08.
fine, but you don't pick a guy 1st and throw 30 million dollars at him if there are questions... unless you are al davis. plenty of organizations have made this mistake in the past and set their franchises back years for it. unfortunately, predicting nfl success for awesome college qbs i really really don't understand why it is that people are surprised that the kid is struggling in oakland right now. there was never a point at LSU in which I thought, "boy, that guy has command of this offense". he was always something to watch in a comeback situation, though. maybe we should have spotted each team a pair of TD's out the gate (oh wait, he did that against Florida in 2004). jeff thinks he should be starting and it is probably the case. he doesn't want to be a mentor to anyone.
