He was not a QB, but another player who was down and out for other reasons but came back to be an outstanding pro was Chris Carter. It's do-able, but you have to want it. Sometimes, you don't want it until you lose everything, and that is certainly the direction JR is going. On another note, his love for his home state is not insulting to me. He did pick LSU over UA/AUB, and proceeded to play fairly well for us for 4 years. I am sure he bleeds P&G like all of us, he just grew up in ALA and has a fondness and nastalgia that we all feel for our birthplaces, too. For my taste, he has a different style in demonstrating his affections, but that is up to him. I still root for former Tigers, even JR and Harvey Williams
i just get the bad feeling that in a few years, all that #1 draft choice money is gonna be frittered away and he will be selling that necklace to make a car payment or something. seems sad to me that he seemed content to let himself go to pot and not show any work ethic. i cringe every time i listen to espn and hear him referred to as another ryan leaf.
the leaf comparison just doesnt work. jamarcus is not a head-case lunatic that everyone hates. he is simply the strongest arm ever to throw a football, and not much more. i am glad for him that a team as stupid as the raiders thought he was first pick material, which he clearly never was. JR, save your cash friend, enjoy, your life away from the game.
maybe he will get traded to a team like Indianapolis or New England and can be a back up for Manning or Brady for awhile and learn some things about the game, do some studying on the bench, and come back in a few years and be a quality qb. he has to want it though, he just seems to comfortable in his situation.
I don't think he will be traded unless I am missing something here. He makes too much money, most teams would never pay him that much for a few reasons including salary cap. The Raiders will have money problems for years to come. The best thing to do is not to take a QB in the first round, sometimes it works but in todays world it doesn't make much sense. I'm not going to blame JR either, not saying that. The Raiders are a disaster since CJG left and went to The Bucs. He will probably get another chance and sign as a free agent. He might turn out to be a bust but I think if he is surrounded by a UnRaiderlike team he may have some success. I just made up a word!
The only hope for JR is to follow the example of VY. VY lost his job but he used his time to dedicate himself to the game and learn his position. Now he is making good decisions, playing with confidence, and leading his team. JR still has time, but unless he dedicates himself, loses some weight, works his butt off during the season, and proves to some team he wants to be an NFL Quarterback, his career is over. I'll be surprised if Oakland doesn't cut him loose once the season is over. For $30 million they can find a better quarterback than JR in his present state of mind.
+1, that's all I can see happening. I'm a big Russell fan, but he has bombed. With the shock effect of being cut, if he can get in shape, and goes to a quality org. with a good QB coach, maybe he can resurrect.
Agreed. Part of the reason he sucks is because of the organization he's with. I don't think he'll ever be a superstar, but he can be serviceable IF the Raiders release him, he finds the right team/coaches to develop his talent, then put in the work necessary to improve. I doubt he has the attitude or the motivation.
