Well, he played like crap again UGA, UF and Tenn in '05. He tried to give that UF game away, even if he was a sophomore.
Your disdain for this guy, his talents, and his accomplishments have always puzzled me. I am sure it rankles you that he got picked first in the draft, as evidenced by the glee with which you try to illustrate his current shortcomings in the NFL, after all of one training camp and one season on a horrible team with horrible management. I don't think he has even remotely had a chance to grow or shine at Oakland because of Davis. The funny thing, is most every sports analyst, and especially former pro QBs, agree with me. At worst, they say the jury is out because he hasn't had a chance. I get that you think he is a strong armed dumbass but I just don't agree his career indicates that.
We simply disagree. Calm down. Even Mike Mayock said there is no way he would have taken this guy in the first round, much less the first pick. No pocket awareness, showed it the entire time at LSU and now with Oakland. I would go futher than that to say he has no field awareness either. He just doesn't get it is all. I am glad he raped Oakland for all that money. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy (Al Davis).
Yes we do, and what in my statement suggests I am not calm? Because I disagree with you? You read far too much into people's words. And there are plenty of other analysts that disagree. You list one, so I'm supposed to fall over dead with grief? I am happy you have someone to agree with you. I have plenty that agree with me. We can both sleep soundly now. Analysts that actually played the game at the pro level disagree with you and attribute Russell's shortcomings to his lack of Oline, lack of talent at WR, lack of a head coach, or any kind of offensive scheme designed to groom a young QB, which he is. Entirely too much is put on him and he will not succeed unless Davis dies or trades him, imo. As to the entire time he was at LSU? I don't get that at all. Pocket awareness requires stepping into it to make a throw instead of running or getting sacked. You are claiming that Russell did not do this while here? I don't know what games you watched, because I almost never saw him take off running, and his sacks rarely came from a lack of awareness, but rather from a proven ability to avoid them or shrug them off altogether. he almost always stepped into the pocket, not out of it and into a sack. Yes, we disagree and time will tell if he will succeed at the next level. But his success at LSU is not in dispute. And I will remain puzzled why you feel the need to dog out one of our best QBs in recent history.
Russell avoided many sacks because he was a brute of a QB, something rarely seen by anyone. Again, he was in the position to be sacked because of the lack of awareness, but avoided it based on just pure physical talent. And yes we will both sleep well at night. Thank you Mike Mayock. :thumb: Watch the Tennessee game from 06 and tell me CajunPunk isn't correct that we indeed won in spite of Russell, and thanks to a botched call by an official regarding Russell's fumble.
Your implication is that he shrugged off defenders constantly. He did not. And regardless, having the ability to shrug off a defender does not indicate a lack of awareness, it indicates an ability to prevail where others cannot. One game? How many games did he win for us? Never mind, don't bother answering. You dogged him the whole time he was here, got real quiet when he was drafted, and have now dusted off your old rants on Russell. I get it.
You should read more closely. See my earlier post above. Simple, well-articulated disagreement is not personal dude. Though you have now alluded to it twice. You might want to look in the mirror.
