JaMarcus Russell admits he tested positive for codeine after 2007 draft - ESPN

I feel bad for Russell. Though he was frustrating at times while at LSU and overrated as the 1st pick in the draft, I hoped he would take his game to the next level.

I hope he has the character to rebound from this, rehab his image, and dedicate himself to achieving his best. However, that might be wishful thinking.

i don't know, it would certainly point to that now that he admits use, but coedine is extremely popular in urban areas. it has been glamourized by rappers for years, and these young kids growing up listening to that know they can sell it, know it makes you feel good etc etc.

It is nice to see Jamarcus finally man up for something though. I wish him well.

What are the odds another team takes a risk on him like the Eagles did with Vick?

Vick, though, actually showed promise before his troubles. Kinda.

He made a superbowl, and had some division and a NFC title. But i agree, i never thought he was a great quarterback at all. He was a great college quarterback, but he was a mid level pro. And if he didn't have speed he would have never made it as a quarterback in the NFL.

I don't thinks the odds of Jamarcus signing anywhere are in his favor. He is going to have to have some major breakthroughs, and i think he is making the right steps towards that, with admitting his problem. Now if he could just get in shape. Coedine is an opiate so it makes sense where the weight came from, and it's not an easy drug to kick without help.

Where in that article does he "admit a problem"? He only admits to a positive drug test and actually goes on to specifically deny a drug problem. If his peeps protect him as a friend and their source for drugs/partying, then he will continue a downward spiral. If someone can get through to him, get him to realize he actually has a drug problem, right the ship in that regard, then maybe, in time, he could consider trying to then re-commit to resurrecting his career. And, you are kidding yourself if you think that a positive drug test for codeine in 2007 and now the purple drank issue in 2010 are not part of a continuum of opiate use for him during this time. He's been using for years - I guarronteee it.

i fully agree. the guy seems to be a train wreck in progress and his posse is keeping him on that track.

Vick took his team to the playoffs and they upset the favored Green Bay Packers at Lambeau field.

Russell excused himself out of meetings and never showed back up.

And therein lies the problem. His posse.

And he won't turn his back on his homies.

That just wouldn't be right (in his mind).
