this is interesting. Because the Pads already have burnt the Peavy bridges and have said they will trade him. but I can not imagine anyone giving more than ATL would have been giving. So I have to think Frank Wren knows something we do not know. (Probably that the Braves will sign one of the top-tier starters on the market).
Hopefully the Stros get back in the picture, but then again we still don't have a legit GM. Glad to see the Braves didn't get him.
That's just it, we don't know what the Braves were offering. Apparently the reports that they were offering Escobar were wrong--at least not Escobar AND Gorkys. Looks like Escobar/Gorkys, Charlie Morton and another prospect (not Heyward, Schaffer, or Freeman). Who knows... There have been rumors that St. Louis is going to make a push for Peavy. Maybe a package centered around Ankiel and a top prospect.
I prefer signing Burnett and/or Lowe and keeping the young shortstop than giving up the farm for Peavy. He's good, but he's not THAT good. I think a lot of this was just him pitching in a huge park.
The Atlanta ballpark is a pitchers ballpark too. Peavy > Burnett and Lowe. Burnett is a walking D/L. I like Lowe for the playoffs, however. He is clutch.
I'd rather have 60 pretty good starts from 2 guys than 30 really good starts from 1 guy. While also having an all-star caliber SS still on your roster to go with those 60 starts, as well as your top prospects. one individual doesn't add a ton to a rotation if the rotation stinks. See Santana to Mets as an example.
