I think Byrd was done even when he was healthy. The Saints gave him $26 in guaranteed money because he was good at causing turnovers. Now they are stuck with him on the salary cap
I would like to say this is a tragedy, but with the way the secondary has been playing maybe it's a blessing in disguise? Byrd certainly wasn't the turnover machine that was advertised -- though I certainly don't think that's all his fault -- and the defense has looked lost with him back there. Will R. Bush 2.5 actually be an upgrade? And at least I won't have to listen to Bobby Hebert yelling on WWL that Byrd's stealing money for the rest of the season.
Doesn't surprise me. The whole season so far has been one giant disappointment, just like Byrd's play.
Sucks that he has a season ending injury. But the way the defense has played thus far, it'll be impossible to tell any difference between him and whoever they bring in to replace him. In his 4 games this season he has 22 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 2 passes defended. That's not hard to replace. They should make "missed tackles" an official stat for defensive players
