He's now the highest paid guard in NFL history: New Orleans Saints guard Jahri Evans gets long-term deal, richest for a guard in NFL history | - NOLA.com
Now I have 2 questions: 1. When does Pierre Thomas get paid? 2. If they'll pay Evans 56 million, what's Brees worth?
That's a lot of money for an interior lineman. I'm happy for him but there will be a lot of Saints with their hands out come contract negotiation time.
They're working on several contracts this offseason. Evans just happened to get his worked out before Thomas. Lance Moore is up, too. FWIW, Brees is in a 6 year/$60 million dollar contract. Evan's $56 million contract is over seven years. Brees will be the highest paid QB when Loomis is done. It's impossible to place a monetary value on Brees, but Rita LeBlanc should make him a minority partner when he retires.
Saints may have highest payroll in football after brees gets his contract going into 2011 season...team just waiting on new cba so they can get past this silly 30 percent rule for salary increases Brees probably looking at 6 year extension worth 120 million or close to it
This is such a change in philosophy from years past. Nice to see that we are continuing to make moves that will keep us in the hunt for another SB. This, as has been pointed out, may start a chain reaction in Saints players salaries. Not sure if we will have the highest payroll in the NFL, but we sure as hell won't have one of the lowest. Dang thats a chunk of change for an OL player. Kinda ironic that that the man (LT) who can be partially credited with OL players being paid so hansomly, has a thread about him being arrested for violence.
Forget where I read it but from what I understand, the bulk of Evans' money is over the first two years of his contract. Obviously if he gets hurt the first year or two that sucks for us. But if a new CBA has a salary cap, it puts us smelling like a rose for his cap number. And it won't put us having to beg him for a restructure 4-5 years from now. I don't see a high payroll as a problem. Benson is sure to be raking in the $$ from jersey sales. Nice problem to have.
