Batter out when: 6.05 (j) After a third strike or after he hits a fair ball, he or first base is tagged before he touches first base; http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/batter_6.jsp
<-----------needs stronger glasses! damn, i didn't see that one. but it doesn't say anywhere about a tie. so...that argument is still up in the air.
Like gumborue said. It doesn't say "tie goes to the runner" but implies it by saying the fielder must touch first base BEFORE the runner does. If they touch at the same time this was not accomplished and the runner should be safe.
There will never be "tie goes to the runner"... it is a moot point because you can't argue a JUDGEMENT call. As a former umpire you will always make the call as you see it, and trying to determine if the runner and the ball made it there exactly at the same time is quite impossible.
Any judgment call is always going to be hard to make. That doesn't mean there aren't rules either way. We get the luxury of replay, umpires don't. Many sports are changing that.
ok, duder, duderino, i gave unc props. i just wasnt ready to crown them the greatest thing to happen since sliced bread. they played a good game. as far as me being here for 2 weeks, who cares. ive been an lsu fan for almost 32 years now. the only thing that comforts me, is a great team effort, wins, and sometimes korean hookers named kim. it would be nice for our guys in purple and gold, to not get screwed out of an opportunity to take control of a game. regardless of how "wonderful" north carolina is, and they are a good team. a good team, with great pitching, better pitching than ours even. which makes it all the worse, when obvious calls go against you. it wasnt i who pissed on your rug, so you wont be getting any handouts from me.:thumb::geauxtige
Khounba has the right rule at the top. But your luck with winning the tie goes to the runner argument is very slim.
