    TE/DE/LB Prospect from Alabama:

    [IMG]
    6'3.5" - 216 - 4.62 (4.3 shuttle)

    Rated Rivals 2* (rivals guy says a 3rd star is coming in next update, his senior film has been impressive). We're signing him as a TE, which is where he impressed the coaches during the pring camp.

    Welcome to LSU JD!!

    Welcome Mr. Lott. He is a 4.6 in the forty so he will work out well at tight end. I hear Jimbo is really high on this kid.

    Yea apparently he really did well at the LSU camp, and his Nike combine scores were some of the highest of the entire year. His SPARQ rating was just under 91.00!

    What is the SPARQ rating and how does that score compare to other studs?

    The sparq is a combination of size, speed, agility, strength, endurance, etc. It's a way to fairly evaluate different players of different size using the same rating system...it's prorated so a 75 sparq for a QB and a 75 for a DL means they are equal in their athletic developement.

    Now, anything over 80 is good..here is a link to a sparq site with results from combines all over the country, notice how JD stacks up:

    Shomari Clemons: LSU commit, 4* -> 69.55
    Danny McCray: LSU commit, 3* -> 82.02
    Charles Scott: LSU commit, 4* (#1La rb) -> 66.34

    Andre Smith: 5* (#2 overall) -> 60.41
    Myron Rolle: 5* (#3 overall) -> 80.55

    J.D. Lott: LSU commit, 2* -> 90.91

    As you can see, he is as athletic as any kid in the country, but he's rated out of position. He's here to play TE/H-back, but plays DE/LB in HS, with some TE. Sparqs don't tell the whole tale, but they do give you a way of evaluating how athletic a kid is at his size/strength/speed quotient.

    Welcome to LSU! indeed! Nice to see a commitment from a much-needed position. With his athletic ability, he should be a very productive TE before his time is up at LSU! His size and speed reminds me of Brian Kinchen. And if he plays like Kinchen, we're in for a real treat!

    I saw his April 82.02 in April, but check out what McCray did in May at Houston 101.24% Am I reading this correctly? If so, DAMN!! I see why Miles was anxious to get this guy's to commit to LSU!

    One of the rivals guys, I think it was Crabtree, called McCray the most underrated player in the entire southwest.

    Holy crap, I missed that...check out his #s from that camp:

    6'1" 205lbs
    4.35 - 40
    4.01 - shuttle
    bench - 28 reps
    vert. - 35"

    That's a serious combination of speed and strength there. He apparently hits hard too, could develop into a hell of a S or a LB - the ultimate 'tweener' heh.
