Right, with over a month to prepare. How do you come out not ready to play? The real madhatter would have thrown the kitchen sink at Bama, but he was scared too, not just JJ.
It wasn't so much as Miles failing Monday night. Or that our gameplan sucked... Miles could have given a great pre-game speech for all we know. But the players (and probably coaches too) assumed what every single one of us assumed - - - we were going to win, PERIOD. "Greatest Team in LSU History" and all that. And Bama came out sharp. Really, really sharp!
If Mett is as good as advertised, and we'll so find out, why didn't CLM play him more this year? He could have been the difference. When the time comes, that too could become a firestorm.
By who isltl? Dudes never been under pressure by an SEC defense yet. We will take a few lumps along the way with any new qb.
well, to start with... he was leading to start for Georgia as a freshman, ahead of Aaron Murray, who has turned into quite a nice SEC quarterback and, if i'm not mistaken, he lead his jc team to the championship game. and, if you re-read my original post i never stated he had been under SEC defense pressure. i DID ASK "why didn't CLM play him more this year".
The good thing is that our early schedule lends itself to bringing him along. We start with North Texas, not Oregon. By the time the meat of the schedule hits, he will be more experienced. Plus, his age will help him. Matt Flynn never had more than mop-up duty, save the '05 Peach Bowl, until his senior year--but he helped us win a NC.
We can say that now that we lost the NC, but we were playing for titles and went with the 2 senior QB's. It worked, except for that last game.
I'm sure I'm not the first or only fan to have thought this, but I've wondered the whole year long whether our best QB's (Mett and Randall) weren't sitting on the bench, especially after the first Bama game. Younger players, sure, but sure would've been nice to have something stronger at our weakest position. This whole JJ/JL saga has gone on way too long. Lets see how our QBs play next year. I have yet to hear even one fan say they dread the change in QBs for next year, or the loss of all of that valuable experience. IMO, it's 4 years too late.
Obviously, our weak link on the team for too long has been QB. It's good for the team that this era is over. I also would've preferred to see Mett more. I don't like having a green QB, but hey, it worked for Bama this year. McCarron did enough to get the job done. Mett can hopefully do the same.
