Be dam if I'm giving 10% to a Catholic church (in my case) that has two pastors who have a yard man, a cook and house help and 10 hours of service a week unless there's a funeral. Pet peeve of mine is the church telling people to sacrifice when they hoard millions.
Which things? for example, the group kyle gives to is currently delivering bottled water to Michigan. Am I to believe every supermarket doesn't have more water than anyone can drink for pocket change? And isn't the local economy poor? Why punish local business who want to sell water?
Churches are a particularly evil way to give away money, thats for sure. I tell my cathholic friends "you can take some solace in the fact that not 100 percent of your money goes to child molesting. Clearly some does, but it's not all, so congrats"
no i didnt. i lied. but even if i did its all self rewarding. i wouldnt tell you unless asked. like now.
Helping the less fortunate. If you do research, and target charities that are efficient and local, giving is productive.
So the givers can feel good about themselves. Since they won't be going to hell they won't need the water anyway.
Better and more useful than money donations, people can/should give their time. The idea that charities should operate at no profit or 100% donation going straight to the cause is unrealistic IMO. The only way that happens is with 100% volunteerism and/or a larger entity willing to donate for a write-off. It's easier to pull out the wallet or put a check in the mail, than to make time to help other people.
Besides hospitals for children and injured servicemen, pretty much everyone is hurt by charity. What do your local people need? This is America, not Bangladesh.
