    question for you:
you do realize that pointing out his deficiencies does not equal hate, right?

me personally, I do not hate O.

no, i don't think he was the right hire for LSU, but it's not hate.
I actually hope the guy wins so many titles we have to build a new wing to the athletic building to house the trophies.

but we are all currently posting in a thread that's discussing coaching advantages/disadvantages.
and that thread has morphed into discussions about other coaches and their resumes.

discussing what O has/hasn't done as a coach somewhere isn't hating.
it's pointing out what has actually taken place at some point in time prior to right now.

I am starting to realize that when one hooks their wagon to a certain coach (could be any coach) that pointing out things like that always gets turned into something that it is not. I didn't "hate" Les, I just wanted a more productive offense. Hell I think most of the board/fanbase is in that exact same boat. There are a few though that still believe the man could do no wrong and to say anything other than glowing is viewed as hate by that crowd. Just the way it is I guess

Oeaux wasn't my first choice. Jimbo was and despite the season he is having now he is still a good coach. Shit happens and every coach will have a season where everything goes wrong if they coach long enough. Herman may or may not turn Texas around. He never wanted to coach at LSU anyway. Of the other names mentioned some were coaches who had some success at mid majors but never proved themselves on the next level. Remember Curley Hallman? Florida hired Jim McElwain who had been a successful OC and did well in his only head job at Colorado State. He didn't last long.

Shaw, Petersen and Patterson would not have taken the job for various reasons. Shaw and Petersen being west coast guys and Patterson being paid an unknown but huge amount at TCU. Larry Fedora, meh. We might have been able to get Fuentes who did well in his first year at V Tech, but would he have wanted to leave after only one season. Other than Saban and Meyer and that guy who has never coached college football but whose name comes up for every head job, Jon Gruden, who is left? Well, how about Chip Kelly. Make an offer he couldn't refuse to a guy who doesn't like to recruit.

One name that rally wasn't mentioned in all the speculation is Dabo Swinney. I would have opened up the checkbook to get him but would he have taken the bait? Maybe, maybe not.

    Here is Florida's new list:

    Florida’s best options
Chip Kelly, former Oregon and San Francisco 49ers/Philadelphia Eagles coach
Florida fans want points, and they want them now. Chip Kelly has been spending this season in the broadcast studio after a failed one-year run in San Francisco, but everyone is still well aware of the work he did at Oregon from 2007-12, first as offensive coordinator and then in leading the program.

    Scott Frost, UCF coach
The former Nebraska quarterback most likely would choose the Cornhuskers over the Gators if both options were on the table, but he’s been doing excellent work down the road from Gainesville. Florida surely has Scott Frost on its short list.

    Charlie Strong, South Florida coach
Charlie Strong led the Gators defense from 2003-09 and had kept USF out of the “L” column all season until a Saturday loss to Houston. Once one of the game’s most coveted coordinators, his ugly stint at Texas has slightly sullied his personal brand.

    Matt Campbell, Iowa State coach
Matt Campbell has successfully brought MACtion to the Big 12. He led Toledo to a pair of division titles in 2014 and 2015 and has now dragged a long-dormant Iowa State program into the Top 25 for the first time in 12 years.

    Mike Norvell, Memphis coach
A pair of Top-25 upsets and a flashy passing offense have put Memphis back on the national radar. The 36-year-old Norvell only has one-and-a-half years of head coaching experience, but he’ll find himself on plenty more of these types of lists if the Tigers continue winning.

Joe Moorhead, Penn State offensive coordinator
Penn State has been the country’s “it” program over the past 12 months, and Joe Moorhead’s work with the Nittany Lions offense has been a key factor in that success. His only head coaching stop was at Fordham (his alma mater) from 2012-15.

    Brent Venables, Clemson defensive coordinator
If the Gators aren’t set on an offensive-minded candidate, Brent Venables deserves a call. His Clemson defenses have been strong since he arrived in 2012, and he served on Bob Stoops’ Oklahoma staff for 13 seasons before that.

    It’s worth a shot
    Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech coach
The 2016 ACC Coach of the Year has helped the Hokies stay nationally relevant since taking over from Frank Beamer last season. There’s no indication he would leave his perch in Blacksburg, but Florida can offer him more money.

    Mike Leach, Washington State coach
Mike Leach has baggage, but he performed a minor miracle by resuscitating the Wazzu program. The Cougars were 7-29 in the three seasons preceding Leach’s hire in 2012, and are now headed for their third straight campaign of eight or more wins.

    Dan Mullen, Mississippi State coach
Sorry, Starkville. Dan Mullen has been on seemingly every “coaching candidate” list over the past few years, but there’s a direct connection here — his stint as Florida offensive coordinator from 2005-08 — that makes this a legitimate option.

    So you’re telling me there’s a chance
    Bob Stoops, former Oklahoma coach
Bob Stoops spent 1996-98 as Florida’s defensive coordinator before beginning his legendary Sooners career. Odds are, Big Game Bob sticks to retirement, but he just might be itching to get back on the sideline.

    Les Miles, former LSU coach
This makes little sense if the Gators wish to focus on improving their offensive output, but Les Miles is still a national championship coach with several years of SEC experience.

Jon Gruden, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach
Vegas recently made Jon Gruden the favorite to replace Butch Jones at Tennessee. Perhaps all this speculation about a potential future in the college game will make the ESPN analyst consider a destination outside of Knoxville.

Steve Spurrier, former Florida and South Carolina coach
Does the Head Ball Coach have one last chapter to write?

that’s the reason i put available in quotes

Swinney was on a NC run at Clemson, i doubt he leaves for any gig other than maybe Bama since it’s his Alma Mater. and even that is still a maybe.

Chip Kelly was still employed by an NFL team. the list of guys that willingly jumped from NFL to college is pretty short (but an impressive list).

neither Urban nor Saban were leaving.

Peterson is a west coast guy that had previously turned down other big programs to stay out west

Patterson is entrenched at TCU and not leaving.

Shaw is at his Alma Mater and unlikely to leave for another college gig.

that’s why i didn’t list any of these guys.

    agree.

i defended keeping Les for longer than most.
not because i was a fan of Les.
because i didn’t trust Alleva and felt he needed to be the first domino to fall.
Replacing a guy with Miles track record is never easy and always a gamble for a competent AD.
doing so with an Alleva level AD is all but putting a loaded pistol in your mouth.

but was branded as a Les lover because of it.

I'm just tired of those who keep saying we should have done a search but who don't list a name they would hire. Oeaux is the coach now. He got off to a rocky start and the criticism is justified but in the last 3 games the picture has dramatically improved. He will be the head coach at least through next season unless somebody wants to pony up the buyout money so let's see what happens.

Alleva wasn't going to get fired while Les was the coach, unless the downward trend continued and Alleva didn't fire him. Now his future is tied to Oeaux. If Oeaux fails Alleva will likely be fired before or at the same time as him. If he does well we are probably stuck with Alleva for the foreseeable future. I can live with that as long as we are playing winning football and improving.

Wow buddy, you don't sound like you respect ANY of my opinions. I didn't attack you. I stated my opinion that you hated Ed as our Head Coach which is backed by your statements and you do.

You need thicker skin buddy. I never once attacked you, your character, or anything other than your opinions of the man in charge.

I have been on message boards many years and know how malicious character attacks are and assure you, this ain't it. We were in a minor disagreement.

there were enough reasons to fire Alleva prior to Miles getting fired. and there was a healthy and growing segment of supporters of this university that wanted him gone well before Miles job security was even in question.

the path LSU should have chosen was to can Alleva (can dump Miles at same time if you want), bring in a new AD and let him make the coaching hire.

similar to what was done in ‘99/‘00.
yes, i know Dean was technically still employed, but he had already been eliminated from making any decisions and was replaced immediately after.
