Not trying to either. I can't even convince you of things when I show you facts. I know you equate having the last word with winning so it's yours, I'm hanging up now.
Is that the point of this thread? I've lost track. FWIW, if LSU had been willing to put their money where their mouth was, they could have had...if not whomever they wanted, at least someone with a proven track record. For whatever reason, they decided to conduct the hire...a year after we'd won a NC...with apparently even lower standards than they conducted the hire after canning Dinardo, who was the bookened to the debacle that was the 90s. Think about it...at one hire, we were coming off our worst decade ever, at the other, we were coming off an f'ing NC, and between that and our vastly improved facilities were a top-tier school. And the search was conducted with apparently less 'psuh' as it had been when we were a joke in the SEC. The program had become elite, but the AD's office was trailing far behind, IMO. Edited to change a few things....I recalled the coaching searches that resulted in Saban's hire and CLM's hire being similar. In fact, it seems as though we had higher standards when we hired Saban (in that we offered a top tier salary). Why the change when we hired CLM? I really do not remember him being paid so handsomely when first hired...only getting the huge bump after the NC. And if I'm recalling that correctly, that CLM wasn't a top-paid coach when hired here, why the change from one job search to another?
Was that what he was paid? I admit, I recall that it was a bit less. But when he left, we weren't offering top 3 money, were we?
not positive, but seems like i remember we made him 3rd highest paid in country when he came here. don't think so, but not sure. i only remember the Saban money because the dollar amount was so big (for the time)
What was CLM paid when he got here? Top three? I'd be surprised...I don't remember it that way (though I'll admit my memory is shot at times). If we paid him that much, we paid too much. Hell, I think if Saban was top three when he was first hired, he was paid too much at that point given his record...maybe I'm cheap. I did not just type that. :dis:
Funny how threads evolve....the original message was the parallel between Solich's record at Nebraska when he was fired and where Miles is today and that a winning record is not the only criteria for keeping your job. Basically, that a lot of people claim that Miles is safe because of his record and I don't think that's necessarily the case.
had to look it up. seems he got paid the same 1.2 mil Saban got in year one. not sure where that ranked nationwide though.
I don't think that's the case (especially after last night), nor do I think our situation is the same as Nebraska's was when they canned Solich. A winning record of games played out like last night's is the end for CLM...not just GC, IMO. I do not recall that Nebraska was the butt of national jokes regarding their incompetence when Solich was fired.
