For those of you who keep saying Les won't get fired, remember Frank Solich.... Solich was fired from Nebraska after a 9-3 season. The reason, "athletic director Steve Pederson fired Solich after the team posted a 9-3 record in the Big Twelve Conference. Pederson said he did like the direction the football program was going. Solich was head coach for six seasons posting a 58-19 record." Interesting parallel....
Is it your assumption that because Solich's replacement failed, if Miles is fired his replacement will fail also? My comparison is that Solich had a 9-3 record and almost an identical Win/Loss record as Miles and the AD didn't like the direction of the program and he was terminated. Is it beyond your imagination that our AD, given the reaction of the fans, the national commentators, and I'm sure board members and boosters, couldn't make the same decision? I'm not pro or anti firing of Miles, I'm simply stating to all those who keep quoting Miles record as an indicator he won't get fired, that it has been done before. And yes Callahan was a bust, but without the steps Nebraska took, they wouldn't have Pellini either. So in the long run, it worked out for them.
Bill Callahan 2004-2007 Over all 27-22 (.55102) 2004: 5-6 2005: 8-4 2006: 9-5 (Big 12 North Champs) 2007: 5-7
Doesn't it really come down to money. Last year many claimed buying out Crowton was "too costly." This year Crowton probably goes, but buying out HC will be too costly. Best option, leave CLM as the HC but put Offense in the hands of best young OC search firm who got us Saban can find with opportunity to replace CLM in the future if things work out.
yes it has been done before. and as pointed out on this board before, those schools who make that move almost NEVER get the guy they want as a replacement. they go through a list of guys that publicly turn them down and are left settling for god knows what, and they fall deeper into the pit than they were with the guy they fired.
No...the fact that Calahan was the 7th or 8th choice. You wouldn't get anyone here with any sort of resume' if Miles were fired after a 9 win season. One thing about the coaching fraternity is the stick together no matter what they feel personally about each other. Of course I'd be willing to take the job and for a lot less money.
Yes, and Nebraska went 0-183 for a bunch of seasons afterward. Maybe those aren't the exact numbers, but its what their record should've been. Why? Because anyone who fires a 9-3 coach deserves it. It's arrogance. Period. They deserve the dose of humility.
