tried to talk him into transferring, and had some real inflammatory remarks about LSU. http://lsu.247sports.com/Bolt/Harris-HS-coach-has-strong-words-for-Les-35131444 That's real big of you coach, encourage your ex qb to be a quitter.
Yep, just saw it and was going to post it. I saw it a different way LaSalle! His HS coach knows Harris skills and what he can do. I think he watches the games and sees how bad Jennings is and thinks if Miles wants to play Jennings over him he should transfer. WE all know the history of Les Miles, the QB's he plays and how he utilizes talent on offense. A little sarcasm towards the end. As an LSU homer I'd say for Harris to be able to play consistently and become better I agree with his high school coach. Doesn't make me happy, pisses me off a little. I'll stop there!
I agree with both of you guys and with Harris HS coach. I feel CLM picked the wrong game to decide Harris game readiness. True freshman at away game against highly ranked SEC opponent? Talk about trial by fire. And then no real chance for the rest of the season. I kind of felt like that was how CLM was able to tell all of us to STFU.
I remember a member of Stovall's LSU staff calling my dad to ask how to handle a difficult father of one of their running backs. In fact, they suggested that my dad get the troublesome father under control for them. My dad gave them a few tips but declined getting involved in the situation, as it wasn't his business anymore. In short, coaches will naturally still favor their former players, but it's disappointing to see a high school coach encourage his former player to move on when he's not working directly with that kid now.
You see this in a lot of HS coaches. They always think their kid is the greatest football player ever after watching them cut it up in high school and can't understand how they won't start day one in college. The reality is, when they get to college, they're all incredibly good and the high school coach just hasn't been around that type of talent in bulk before. I'm in the camp that thinks if Harris was that much better than Jennings, he would have played. Glad he's staying though because he's got the natural ability and if he works hard, he will be the starter.
I just don't think a high school coach should advise a young man to quit and go play somewhere where he doesn't have to earn his spot. To me that is counterproductive.
Or maybe that's what he truely thinks is best for the young man's career. Should his loyalty be to Harris or should it be to Miles and LSU? Is the LSU QB situation a cluster *beep* or is it not? Yes his words were harmful to LSU, but I can't fault him for being honest.
I just find it funny that its coming out now when this happened after the season ended, just week before NSD
