Checking out old threads and ran across this one, so an update. It turns out I do not have Crohn's Disease, and they are classifying my initial stomach issue as "probably a virus, but we're really not sure what the hell happened." Also got lots of advice from gallbladder removal patients I know, about avoiding this food or that. But I've yet to have a problem, and I haven't had to change my diet one bit.
@mctiger Damn, thats a bad ass stomach virus, Baw. Gotta get that immunity up by hittin golden corral more often. And glad youre roundin the corner.
I just read this! Glad you're outta the woods and better! We physicians can sure give y'all a run for your money (pun intended). Reminded me of a patient who told me her husband got admitted to NYU Hospital--basically a top ten U.S. institution. But, he had one f-up after another, they took his gall bladder and, while inside, nicked an artery and he nearly bled out. Then it was one organ failure after another but he got through it. Always the jokester, I said to my patient, "Wow! It looks like, despite his doctor's best efforts, he survived." You did too. Welcome back!
Sorry to hear of your ordeal. Sounds awful. I hope the doctors can come up with a definitive diagnosis. Like my father used to say, “They don’t call it practicing medicine for nothing!” Good luck.
Oh boy, more to add to this thread. Don't think I mentioned this, but remember the LSU/UCLA game? Record breaking heat that weekend? The night before, I overdid it while setting up my TV station's high school football streamcast, and ended up taking my first ambulance ride due to near heat stroke. That came out OK, IV and a take it easy weekend, good as new, but in the ER they did an EKG and didn't like what they saw, recommended I visit my cardiologist. Long story short, a few troublesome tests later, and yesterday I had an angiogram in which they put in a stent to offset a 95% blockage in one of the arteries in my lower heart. Also a couple of minor blockages that they'll treat with meds. The doctor used the phrase,"hanging on by a thread" when he talked to my wife and I didn't have the guts to ask him what he meant when I saw him. I'll follow up with my regular guy in about two weeks, but right now I'm feeling like I should be counting myself in the "lucky to be alive" column.
Wow! The “hanging by a tread” comment probably meant you had a heart attack waiting to happen. The heat stroke while very serious by itself got you the testing you needed to uncover the blockage. Glade you are ok. BTW, I am also seeing a cardiologist. I’ve been thru a gauntlet of tests with 1 more to go triggered by an irregular heart beat notice on my apple watch. It’s still uncertain if I have a blockage requiring a stent or medication.
I’m truly sorry to hear all this. Prayers sent for a speedy, complete recovery. When I had my gallbladder removed, I asked the doc if he had done many, he said, “Do you mean tonight?” I liked that guy. I thought I was having a heart attack. My gall bladder was in terrible shape. Within a week of the operation, I was lying on the floor, my (at the time) toddler daughter, “launched” off the sofa on to my chest. I felt the incision give way (in fact I think I heard it). Getting that fixed was much more problematic than the removal itself. To be honest, I didn’t change my diet one bit and never sensed/felt any different. I have done the tube thing once, and I agree that’s about as bad as it gets. Forget water boarding. Anyway, sorry to hear this, get well soon.
So you didn’t feel anything and a device told you something is wrong? That’s how it’s been with me. Crazy isn’t it? Best of luck, hope it all turns out well for you
No symptoms at all, but led me to a cardiologist and testing. Calcium heart scan found very high calcium in the heart then to a nuclear stress test. Not definitive yet, so one more non-invasive test to verify no blockages.
