I grew up in Louisiana and still get back for a game or 2 a year. I live in Big 10 country now. Wisconsin has moments when they are loud but nothing like Tiger Stadium. Tiger Stadium maintains the noise level the entire game. The Badgers get it up there a couple times a game Advantage=Tiger Stadium
Personally I think the stadiums that would offer the best competition in noise would be Penn State, Oregon and when they're good Washington. Washington's stadium is just built to hold in noise. The damned thing goes straight up.
The lower bowl at Tiger Stadium is huge. It seats 67,500 people alone. The reverberation is intense in a way that most stadiums with small bowls and big upper decks can't match. Stadiums without enclosed endzones don't even compete. The addition of the upper decks didn't really make Tiger Stadium appreciably louder. Also Tiger Stadium come very close to the field, much closer than modern OSHA-designed stadiums. There is no track around it and not even enough room for a hedge.
I've always wanted to hear how loud it was actually on the field. Considering the noise level in the stands it must be deafening on the field with all the acoustics and fans focused directly at you.
was the "earthquake" registered at 15 min before the game? im sure it was something bob broadhead thought up to get arnsparger to come to lsu the event evidently occurred at a once in a decade (or more rare for less fortunate programs) event. last play of the game for the sec title (and that cant happen anymore in the SEC) someone find another campus with a 80k+ stadium as close. whats the distance at lsu? 200 yds? i do think tiger stadium may be the loudest (the bowl, night games, old, less flexible concrete construction) but its a matter of degree, not absolute.
dude, it was early October. We still had more than half the season to geaux, so that play wasn't for the title. why didn't it happen in '95 on Twillie's int vs Auburn in the Endzone? That was our 1st shining moment since '88? why didn't it happen in '97 when Raion Hill picked off that pass to seal victory vs #1 Florida? why didn't it happen in '03 when Skyler caught that pass against UGA IN '03? why didn't it happen the day they announced Curley Hallman was gone?
in 97 i was in euless tx, and my neighbors were arrogant gator fans, we lived in a 4 bed apt, so when that play happened i was screaming at the walls, the neighbors never talked to me again. in 03 i think the reason it wasnt as loud was because that was in the day time, we all know LSU fans arent as loud during the day as they are at night. the curly hallman thing, i think the reason it was not so loud was because everyone was on their knees thanking which ever deity they worship.
