Time is running out in the 4th Quarter of this recruiting season. The dead period is about to end and teams will have about 3 weeks to make the final push. It's time to turn verbals into signatures. It's time to tip the soft commits and flip the others. This is the sprint during one of the most critical times of the recruiting season. And LSU is not firing on all cylinders. The Defense remains without a leader. Oh how these young men don't like uncertainty when it comes to their professional future ... Interest in Pendegrast has cooled. Shoop likes where he is (and I don't blame him for staying home after just arriving there a year ago). Venables has re-signed at that other "Death Valley". Orgeron has not been contacted. Stoops ... well thankfully that one didn't grow legs. The one thing the Tigers have done a good job of is to keep everyone guessing. They have kept a pretty good lid on things to this point. In many cases I would think that a process that runs this long and pushes up against a critical deadline means that there may be something big brewing. I'm not so sure with this bunch but I will hold out hope. I've heard mentioned in just about every single article that Les understands how important this decision is. Let's hope so. There's a lot at risk here. I may be wrong, but after all this time and with everything that is at stake for this program and his career ... the next swing needs to be a Home Run.
A number of schools in the last few days have hired Coordinators on sides of the ball. UGA, Neb, Wiskey, Tulsa, Michigan, etc. Congrats to Major Applewhite who was just hired by Houston as the OC/QBC.
Why has LSU not hired someone, hiring Brick Haley looks like a desperation move. It looks like no coaches want join the sinking ship. This will be used against LSU in this pivotal time in recruiting. If its gonna be Brick he should announce immediately and bring Orgeron to close out recruiting.
Still a ways to go till signing day. The EE still look good. Kevin Toliver, Justin McMillan, David Ducre and Hanner Shipley. Toliver will be in line to work with the DB's. McMillan the QB's. Ducre, with the moving on of Conner Neighbors, he'll have a shot to move in early. Ducre may start at the FB position and then play from the RB position. A big talent. Shipley, depends on who you talk with, some say TE, others say he has a great shot at moving into a OT position. Years ago, teams would take a TE and move them to the OT position, this worked well for a number of players over the years.
Les wants to make the right hire, won't be long. Doesn't matter to some who he hires, some won't like it. If Les hires Dick LeBeau from the Steelers, they wouldn't like it. Some didn't like the OL hire, but as the year went on, he broke the players from bad habits and got them to playing as a line. Better than a 55% chance.
Better than 55% chance? Chance of what? Hiring Brick? If so then get on with it this is ridiculous and the longer it goes the even more desperate it looks.
Why? I just made a list of schools that have made hires over the last couple days. So they were ridiculous and desperate? Or is this just LSU?
Only say it's ridiculous if you are going to hire Brick. In addition, the other schools had change at the top. Other schools hired Head Coaches faster than LSU has on a DC.
