Is there a specific reason that we can't get an elite QB

It's getting to the point of beyond frustration. We see Texas, USC, Florida, etc pulling in elite QBs every freaking year, even when they have a starter set a QB. How can this be especially when the oppertunity to start at LSU by sophmore year should be more enticing than sitting back for 3 years and starting their sr year at schools like Texas USC and Florida.

Well, technically we have. Lee and Jefferson were both top 10 pro-style QBs and Shepard was the #1 Dual-threat QB. The lack of a QB coach is hurting us. Plus, I think Lee's confidence may be damaged beyond repair.

Not a specific reason but many factors are coming into play.

One is the offensive production last year and another main one is LA is not producing high level talent at QB like we used to.

The 1st reason is easily corrected with a better performance this year and all is forgotten. The 2nd reason is the bigger concern and LA doesn't seem to have any special QBs for the 2012 class either.

Most Div I programs do not have a coach on staff with the official and only title of QB Coach. There is a limit set on the number of coaches on a team and thereforestaff members have to take on duel roles.

I know, but Jimbo did both and you saw significant growth with Qbs under him.

Sure but one main difference is that Jimbo had many chances with veteran QBs. Crowton has had one with significant playing time who was at least a Junior and won a championship with him. Not saying the Crowton is better but we need to see what JJ can do with a full year under his belt. And if he does well, the production is better and OOS prospects will take notice.

The other option is to start fresh with a new OC/QB coach which could also benefit recruiting if Crowton is not up to par.

Let's not forget Zach Lee and Chris Garrett. Although Garrett did leave, these guys were both Top 10 Pro-Style QBs as well. Lee's even most likely forgoing a 1st round MLB contract to play QB at LSU.

My issue is that we're not recruiting the type of QB that our offensive system benefits best from. Crowton used to be OC at Oregon where he had great success with QBs that could run, but were solid throwing QBs. He had success at LSU with Matt Flynn who is in this mold. Jordan Jefferson is in this mold, however he has been under trial by fire due to Perriloux's peril, and was way too inexperienced when he came in. Jefferson should be able to thrive under Crowton's system in the next two years provided we have good OL and RB play. After Jefferson, though, we don't have a QB in that mold(I am not sure how quick Zach Lee is, but I'm assuming he's not fleet-footed).

So we are recruiting Elite QBs year in and year out, however they're not the type that fits best in our system. Also, the fact that Garrett left hurts us a little because now Lee will most likely be starting at QB in two years as a RS Sophomore instead of Garrett starting as a RS Junior. Hopefully this is not that big of an issue, and Lee will be ready to lead. Personally I would love to see Shep switch over and play QB his senior year because I don't think teams would be able to gameplan for him with the ball in his hands on every play, and I know Miles has said he is going through a throwing regimen still.

Lot of good common sense responses in this thread. I mentioned the other day that, although I have my concerns about Crowton, he does deserve the opportunity to "coach a guy up" for more than a year before we declare him incapable of doing so. And to this point, he hasn't had that opportunity. This year will be telling.

You should look into recruiting a little more.
