Maybe. But his job here in not in jeopardy, so the only incentive is to return to his alma mater. His dream might be to go there and do what he did here. But going there and failing like the last couple of distinguished coaches may not be the legacy Les would like to leave behind. He could coach here four more years and retire as the winningest coach in LSU history and be the Bo Schembechler of LSU. He can never be the winningest coach at Michigan at this point in his career.
Of that list a few I don't like, I can see one for sure maybe more, you can't get. I think, Bill Arnsparger was 57(This was 30 years ago folks, man has time flew) when LSU hired him. Coach Cut is 60 now, does he want to move. If say Les were to leave, he would want to take coaches with him, as with any coach, he would have the upper hand in pay for the Asst. Remember when Les came to LSU, Jimbo and Stacey were holdovers, an were big in the transition, at the time this was big. Les brought a few from Okie Lite and got Karl Dunbar, a former LSU player, a guy Les had really gave him his first real job in the profession. It looks easy. I often talk about filling a staff, that too is not easy. Its not just a plug and play option. I've seen a head coach take an entire staff, I've seen none leave with a coach (Promote from within and all but the HC stays at a school). I've see good coaches move close to a dozen times, of those, 4 were as the staff was let go by schools. Still a good coach, but in that profession, you just never know. Its a tight knit profession, they have to be. Takes a strong wife and kids, you never know how long you are gonna be at a stop. People talk about a coach and a dream job. A wife gets a dream house built only to have to move because of a loss of job within two years. I know, an seen it. But years ago, coaches weren't paid what they are now. Its getting better, lots better.
Defense gives up 630 yards, greatest coach ever. Defense gives up 539 yards, fire the DC Ellis Johnson. Same game?
Notice my purple glasses before you read this. I think Miles learns, just takes him awhile. He learn from the Malveto experiment and we've been solid every since. I think he learns from this year and our offense will be solid next year.
I have never thought that he would leave in the past and I don't think he would leave this time either. Michigan is a lost soul. They have no identity and need a new branding. Les is the ghost of Bo. Michigan needs to bury the past and get on to a new future with a brand new shine. Michigan has stalled. I don't think he would be anymore successful there than any of the recent coaches.
How dare you say that about the great Les. He would win 80% of his games there. Name me another coach that does that.
I agree, his job is not at all nor should it be in jeopardy. I do feel that with LSU being pushed down to #3 in the SEC W, plus the fact UM is his alma mater. Now is the time. The culture appears to be changing here at LSU. At UM, Miles could go in and the only real challenger is OSU. Here you have Bama and Auburn, plus a few schools on the rise. I also feel the criticism from fans may play a part in it.
I do not. Fans criticize the head coach everywhere. Coaches cannot escape it. As long as fans are selling out Tiger Stadium, Les has no fan problem.
