Just what the title says folks. The SEC's bowl record has been poor (3-4) and we have only aTM & Bama to rely on. We have lost to teams and conferences considered inferior (LSU & FL) not looked particularily good in games won by supposed powers (GA & USCe). It doesn't seem Bama is nearly as good as last year and faces a real chance of losing and Okey has had aTm's number while they were in the same Big 12. It is possible we could go 3-6 as a conference this bowl season.

My question is two fold. 1) Is this accurate? and 2) If accurate does this signal a shift away or is it a one year issue?

My thought is that it is accurate this year. I thought most of the SEC power schools were good but none were great. There is talent but the level of super talent was down. I do believe this is a temporary thing and the conference will be back in a position of power again next year.

    What say you all?

I don't think you can accurately gauge a conference by its bowl record, especially since alot of these teams that are playing us Louisville, Clemson, are genuinely happy to be there, and see a win against us as a statement game. If we win, great you should have, if they win, it's oh what's wrong with LSU so it's turned into a lose lose situation for us. Plus this team was on a mission to Miami, now they play an ACC team the day before New Years in the I hate gay people bowl. Kind of a let down.

To be honest, I really don't give two shits about the SEC's bowl record anymore. I know it's a bit harsh, but I'm growing very weary of the awful officiating, scheduling imbalances, and bama favoritism. So maybe it'd be good if somebody knocked Slive down a peg or two.

I still think we're the best conference because there simply isn't another one that is out-performing us this year. Look how many teams we had in the top 10 at the end of the season. No one else is even close.

Some SEC teams got exposed in the bowls, we are the poster child but the gators were just waiting to be outed. The Sugar was no surprise. Cowbells, c'mon...Old Siss could very well lose to PITT. The aggies, along with ourselves and even georgia exposed Bammer so it is entirely possible. Aggies look tough to be took by the sooners but the heisman hangover has yet to happen. In all I would say it was a down year for the SEC while other conferences are playing their super bowls. Withstanding a trip to Miami, some SEC teams are simply playing sloppy seconds. The SEC has been spoiled and for the CFB landscape, this is good

If the SEC went winless in all our bowl games this year, everyone would still fear us. We would still be the most dominant conference in the nation. Schools would be clamoring to get in as the 15th or 16th team if we ever decided to expand again.

Bowl games are worthless money grabs that have long since outlived their purpose & usefulness. If you are not playing for the title, then you are playing for a gold plated watch and a trip to such exotic destinations as San Antonio, Boise, or Shreveport. Maybe if you are lucky, you get to play in New Orleans or Pasadena, but if the trophy is not a crystal football, in the end it is nothing more than a consolation prize.

So no, the fact that the SEC is 3-4 in bowl games with 3 remaining (you forgot Ole Miss plays on Saturday), and the possibility of finishing 3-7 is no indication of the strength or weakness of our conference.

    Sec is down this year.

U can beat ANY secvteam by stacking against the run and making any sec team beat u thru the air.... Bc it cant be done. Sec has the crappiest passing qb's that any logical opponent doesnt fear the passing game. Whats worse, passing defense is nonexistant in 90% of sec teams... Lsu being one of them

Did we have a passing defense last year? If you say yes, why did we give up damn near 500 to Geno Smith? We have a pass defense, except there is a difference, we are weaker against the deep ball and its to be expected, Tharold Simon mainly played press coverage all year, Mills and Collins played off the line because of their youth and inexperience, not to mention what we lost, Taylor made Reid better, Mo made Mathieu and Simon better, and Ron Cooper made everyone better. We still have a great pass D, we just had some key losses and inexperience, not to mention a possible change in coaching philosophy.

The results are down this year, but we still have more teams in bowl games than other conference don't we? If Bama beats the Irish that's 7 years in a row for the SEC.

Yes, the SEC is experiencing a down year this year in the results, but I think we are still the dominant conference.

I'm with you. Been rooting for the other SEC teams to lose, and was quite happy to see Florida get the beat down last night -- damn pretenders that they were.
