Is Russell Shepard as good as Terrelle Pryor?

With Shepard sitting at the top of many recruiting boards I wonder if he has the chance to do for us what TP has done for Ohio State last year.

Shepard's performance has moved him ahead of USC recruit Matt Barkely on some boards.

I just watched some video of him on the ESPN 150. The kid is exciting.

Look for him to get the nod over Lee early in the summer.

He's putting up comparable stats [if not better] than TP did. Against much better competition.

I wouldn't be too certain..Lee will be seasoned and with a full session of practice under his belt could spur a QB we can all be proud of.

definitely a possibility, but the alternative of him never really being able to read the field and check off is just as possible

LSU will have 3 distinct choices going into next season

In answering the question of how good Shepard is, I think Shepard will be a better passer.

I watch Pryor and I am just not impressed with his ability to throw the ball. He is playing within himself, however, and that has proven beneficial to a team with as good a defense as Ohio State has. Most of his big plays have been with his feet.

I look at Shepard and see Vince Young, as far as a running QB goes. He has the ability to take it to the house. Pryor just seems content to get a first down.

I hope this kid works out for the tigers. RP really damaged this teams chances and hopes. LSU needs a break.

I just love this kid coming in early so he can prepare himself to try and take over at QB.

To just totally dismiss his chances to start next season is just foolish.

We will be going into the Spring with the QB position wide open.

HS stats may tell the story. Pryor easily has him beat there. How well the talent translates over will be the question. For Pryor, it has been easy...although the competition level has to be taken into consideration. Lee had impressive stats in HS, as well...

None of us can pretend to know how well his talent will carry over to this level.

    One major difference..

    TP - 6'5"
    RS - 6'1"

Not too much of a problem, I wouldn't think. 6'1" is still decent height for a QB. I'm as curious to see what Shephard can do as the next guy, but Perrilloux was highly regarded out of HS and he couldn't win the starting job. I know we had two QBs in house, but still. Also, Lee was highly touted and we all see what kind of mess he's in. FWIW, I still like Lee's chances next season. You just won't have another QB with as much experience as Lee got this season. Believe me, Lee cannot be happy with the way this season has turned out. What makes you think that he won't work 120% to correct this? It's hard to turn around mid season, that would take a considerable amount of maturity. Lee will be one of the most seasoned QBs in the country next season. But I agree that it should still be WIDE OPEN. CLM needs to get over his playing upperclassmen first fit and play the best player if that indeed is the case. I don't know if it is or isn't.
