Actually no. Social Security is secure for many years yet.

If my life expectancy is 20 years and I have enough money for 15, I wouldn't call that secure.

End SS, let me invest my own money in my retirement.

That's a large part of the problem, politicians do what is best for their careers not what's best for the American people.

Nobody is stopping you. Everybody that is smart has a 401K or an IRA plus other investments or all three in addition to social security. SS is not a pension. It is a subsistence income for elderly people without savings because we don't want Americans who can no longer work forced to live in cardboard boxes like the third world.

One thing that is surely coming is that people who are wealthy enough to care for themselves without social security, will no longer receive SS benefits. The social security checks sent to millionaires are wasted in the goal of keep our elderly in their homes.

    On this we can agree.

You mean I can stop paying into social security? When did this happen?

No, nobody is stopping you from investing in your own retirement. The little bit that SS takes out of your check is a fraction of the money you need to be saving and investing for retirement.

Anyone serious about retirement also puts 5K a year into an IRA and all the rest of the money they can spare into stocks and mutual funds.

It's not a Ponzi scheme because you know what is going on.

Would the Govt. allow any other private institution do this?

The country has many underfunded pension plans, both public and private.

I put more than that, that's not the point. Nice deflection though.
