I've said this a few times in other threads but I wanted to start a thread on this specifically to hear your opinions. With Petersons play only getting better and teams shying from him... and after Chad Jones 2 INT day last weekend... is the Chavis system starting to take hold? If Chad Jones starts to continually improve each game, we solidifying up more of the playing field against opposing defenses... how much easier does this make the game for our other corners and LB's?
Yes, overall. However, the DLine is the weak link right now IMO. If they start getting more push, and more pressure on the QB, this defense could be very good.
I agree... but with Petersons play, and if CJ starts to play like he can and it deminishes oppenants deep ball... it might let us play our Lbers up a bit more and help get a few more in the backfield and QBs faces. Just saying... by these two players stepping up their games, it could help get some extra push up front and help buy them more time to get pressure.
Yep. Also, with all of this and creating better field position, allowing our offense to get more touches, the better the offense will perform.
Our 3rd down defense the last 2 games is about the opposite of what it was statistically for the UW game. They are getting better as a unit but the Dline needs to get healthy and put more pressure on the QB to take some more pressure off the DBs and LBs.
I've been pleased with the progress over the weeks. It remains to be seen if this will continue. Defensive line must improve.
I suspect (but don't really know) that our D is improving from game to game like most of you have pointed out. But I'd like to address something that Is less tangible. I think that comparing this defense to last year's defense there is one great big difference I see. ATTITUDE ! I don't see any quitting going on at all. For better or for worse, I see a lot of effort. There are no quitters on this team :tigereye:. Even with the arm tackling that occasionally happened, it was over pursuit more than someone going through the motions. I also don't see much individualistic celebrations by the players like was often the case last year. Don't get me wrong...there is a lot of jubilation after big plays, but it seems more team oriented. It's one thing to experience defensive deficiencies...but lackadaisically going through the motions and finger pointing, like Arky last year, kills me. That hurts me more than you can imagine. In that regard, I think LSU has definitely turned the corner...for good !! :geauxtige
Yes, but for multiple reasons: - we've got some really talented players (Peterson, Alem and Coleman) - we've got some really good coaches - we've played lesser competition these last 2 weeks. Overall, I expect our defense to remain solid. Patrick Peterson is the real deal. Our secondary's coverage will continue to improve, which will give our front 4 more time to get to the QB. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
