This is absurd. It is much more complex than that.

As usual, you see no need for a government at all, Ayn.

the role of the governmetn is to protect us from violence, from chaos. not to protect us from a housing market that temporarily isnt pleasing to you. the housing market will be fine as long as there are people who want to buy houses and people that want to sell them. you will only hurt it if you try to create more of a market than really exists.

trust the market and let it work. there will be times when people are buying more and there will be times when they are buying less. its not a problem for you to solve with government. if you, do you will manipulate the market in ways you did not intend.

The role of government is far more complex than that.

Who says? Government has solved many problems in the last several centuries. There is a balance to be achieved between government, private citizenry, and business interests. Government can be too involved but it can also be insufficiently involved. The fact is that we live in a competitive world and our rivals use government to affect their own best interests. In harsh economic times, governments have always stepped in to prevent catastrophes. We would be fools to surrender our best interests to outdated 1950's utopian schemes.

for the thousandth time, we all know that is true. the question is where that balance point is.

obviously we all agree that is true. when you make vague statements like this it means nothing. yiuy are like a recipe that said "add ingredient x, the perfect amount", but fail to ever say how much that is. but always reminding everyone that you favor the correct amount, whatever that might be.

correct, this is why europe, for example, is having such economic trouble. this iis why north korea shows up dark at night on satellite photos while soth korea is lit up with bright happiness. you simply cant go around solving everything with government.

virtually every harsh economic time is created by governments failing to allow the market to function. when government start taking steps to favor one side over another, like homeowners, or speculators, or labor, or whatever, thats when the market fails to operate as the miracle supercomputing problem-solver that it is. this is why if you had your way we would go the way of greece.

    CS,

Does this solve the problem that I have of having recently become self employed? I suspect I still wouldn't be able to refinance.

I'm thinking that you will be able to refi under HARP 2.0 b/c no income verification is required. It's basically a streamline. It is assumed that if you are able to make the payments now, then you will be able to make the lower payment. I don't think the 2 year minimum self employment requirement would matter if there is no income verification.

    Shouldn't be an issue....
