It's not confusing. The goal is to get the best team from each division. Let's say Arkansas plays Vandy, Kentucky, and South Carolina and goes 3-0. LSU plays Florida, Tenessee and Georgia and goes 0-3. It doesn't mean Arkansas is the best team in the west if we both go 4-1 in the West and we beat them head to head.
Yes, but then like someone said before you throw a subjective factor in then. The record would show Arkansas 7-1 and LSU 4-4. Especially since you do not decide the schedule in the SEC it should be objective. Who ever has the better overall SEC record in each division plays. You can't just throw out the record against the east, if you do then whats the point of even playing them? I do believe if Arky would go 7-1 with that record that they would deserve it over a 4-4 LSU team. LSU may be the better team but thats just based on the one win over arkansas. Arky should be the west rep in this case. Many people may disagree with me, but thats only because LSU is in this situation right now. Next year if the same thing were to happen except switched around between LSU and Arky, you think Les will still try to argue this method of determining a division champ? - the way we have it now is good
Leave it the way it is. Miles hasn't thought his suggestion through, he's just looking at what benefits his team now. I don't mind questioning things if you have a valid point (Tubby in 2004), but this smacks of a lack of sportsmanship. This is what you agreed to before the season, now suck it up. If you have a problem, address it to the SEC. Miles seems to think the end justifies the means. I prefer the means justify the end mindset. I'm nit-picking again... sorry. =)
I'll be honest, i've never even thought about this until now and I like the way it is set up. However the forum would be boring if not for counter arguments. Therefore how can you say that using the overall SEC record is not subjective? If we beat three different teams than they do it is still subjective.
You are correct. Why would we want to send a team that went 0-3 against the east to go play what would be considered the best team in the east in the sec cg? We play 5 in the west and only 3 in the east. You do most of your damage in your division and you get to beat teams head to head as well for tie breaker situations. Calm down Lester.
Yea that is true, it would be very boring haha But unless you play everyteam in the sec there is no way to make it completely objective, and we know thats not gonna happen. You have one permanent east-west matchup and 2 rotating ones. The one thing that is objective is a 7-1 SEC record is better than a 4-4 sec record. And if we beat three different teams than they do we would have the same record as them and would have the tie-breaker in anyways. Anyways, my point i guess is that you if you lose to 3 teams in the east, that should not be discounted esoecially if the other team wins 3. I mean the east schedule is basically the luck of the draw, some years we'll get vandy some we'll get tennessee. anyways this is all in theory so there is no use getting too into it. now if u want to argue about where we should be ranked after beating michigan in the rose bowl i'd be happy to do thatLSU!
Florida loses the SECCG. USC beats Ohio State by 1 and we blow out Michigan. We get crowned the useless AP champs.
Why is Miles giving Florida bulletin board material for next year. Per the advocate, "Miles said Florida would not deserve to be the second SEC team in the BCS if it loses to Arkansas. “If they lose, I don’t think that they’re a deserving group at that point,” Miles said. He said the Gators are “a great team” that had a “great season,” but he said if they lose to Arkansas a case can be made that the Gators are not as good as they should be on the back end of the season to receive a BCS invitation." He also made some bulletin board comments after the Arkansas game. Up until recently he was nothing but a walking coachspeak and cliche machine. Has he forgotten that we have to play these teams next year.
I think his analysis is right on point and I wouldn't worry about next year- different team. They come to our house and Leak's leaving. :thumb: He's lobbying for his team (Our team)....Meyers is doing the same.
