nah, not really, i still firmly believe we have a shot this year at an SEC championship, especially after what i have seen from this D.
AS we get into SEC and start chewing each others leg off, it will start to get clear who has the goods to match up each week. But first, it's off to Dukie land for us to take on the completely career disoriented and former Alabama alumnus, coach Cutcliffe. After this tussle for the ages we should be ready for the SEC in someplace called Fayetteville.
Especially since all 3 of our biggest opponents look very beatable. Should this team step up even just a little in the QB play we will get to the SECCG. Something that did occur to me this weekend is that should we have a great season, I'm calling 10+ wins great, with 51 freshman on this team, many of which are getting some play time, the future looks even brighter.
You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes well you just might find You get what you need (Rolling Stones) In 2006 and 2007, we turned the keys over to Jake Christiansen, an Elite 11 QB with all the high school numbers of JJ. What a lousy two year run that was!! Not all kids can make the conversion. We finally benched Jake and he transferred. We also have another Elite 11 QB riding the bench and isn't in the two deeps, John Weinke. Our qb now reminds me somewhat of the Bama qb... make the reads, play within yourself and exude confidence... not sure there's a star rating for that...
When JL didn't throw interceptions in '08, he was doing very well. If he's grown past that by now, I think he could be the key, or at least a step towards that key. We've been waiting for improvement from JJ since then and just haven't seen that much. Fact is, JL has the stuff... Jarrett Lee - Brenham, TX - Rivals.com Video We just need to see that stuff. What if they go with the dual QB situation like someone else mentioned in another thread? Jarrett on for a drive, then JJ on for a drive, until one scores?
Yep look at out last two NCs Mauck & Flynn were not the stars Jamarcus and Rohan were in HS but had the critical elements. They also had Jimbo to coach them up. It is too bad we don't know how good JJ & JL could be because they have Crowton as QB coach and he has done nothing for them. If you don't think coaching matters look at the LBs. Shepard, Cutera & Riley were mediocre LBs till Chavis. Thay had tools but not the coaching. In 1 year Chavis made them pros. This is not a wait till next year cry I am very encouraged and have changed my forecast from 8-4 to 10-2 at least. With decent QB we could make SEC CG or even Fiesta NC.
Lee will be on top of all Southern teams as it should be Lee leads the South to another victory!! He just happens to play for LSU sorry Bama you can't have it all - all the time
The one thing i think Tiger fans just can't get over other than all the pick 6's in 08, is the absolute egg Lee laid vs. Tech last year. But how much time did JLee get to see before that game. I mean he was thrust into the Alabama game when Jefferson got hurt, but still, i think Red has said it alot, he needs to see time. One thing i think people are forgetting about is how much better this offense will be when Deangelo Peterson gets back. He is going to be our quarterback's, whomever it may be, safety net.
So much talent on the team and not a decent leader to guide them to victory. History shows that LSU hasn't had many great quarterbacks and has been a problem for us as of late. Our two recent championships our quarterbacks (Matt Mauck, Matt Flynn) werent amazing or flashy quarterbacks but they got the job done. In other words they knew how to WIN and how to manage the game and LEAD the team to victory. However their skills were much better than Jeffersons are at this point. I believe JJ's problems are lack of confidence and lack of leadership as well as his wind up. When I say wind up I mean the way he throws the ball. It takes him longer to throw the ball than many quarterbacks. In the end quarterback remains our biggest weakness. Check out Stephen Rivers, senior in HS signee with LSU might be a great asset or another disappointment.
