I would not say that both were mediocre. In fact, I would say that by SEC standards one year was awful (08) and last year was decent.
No I wouldn't, and neither would many who are trying to make the logical argument that the on field product has changed, noticeably so, in the past two seasons. The score and record being a piece of that contention. The style, intensity, chemistry, the eye test, says the rest. The perception of LSU prior to 08 is different. If Miles didn't believe that as well, he wouldn't have rededicated himself to a more physical style of play. The team is apparently not passing his eye test. My definition of mediocre is only in relation to what's already been accomplished here.
People keep saying we competed for an SEC championship and we weren't mediocre. That's why I brought up the record. In case you forgot, we play them every year. So, if we ever want to win the conference again, its relevant.
Alabama is a more important victory because of them being in the SEC West. We have to beat them to get into the SEC championship game. Is that a good enough reason? Florida has 7 more regular season conference wins than we do over the last 2 years.
