One thing I see is how les speaks of his players in the press. "those men fought like hell", "it hurt us as men to lose","those young men on this team".Miles gives them the respect of being young men-young adults. That gives the the feeling of being respected and most times you hear college coaches talk about players they say our kids played hard or our he's a good kid. I noticed this when I watched the interview with jordi h a few weeks ago and have seen miles refer to his players as men several times over the last few weeks. I think miles' attitude towards them makes them want to play for him and that feeling gets related to recruits when the come to visit. I may be off base a mile on this one but it's something I have been noticing all year.
I think what I am getting at is that CLM seems to almost have an high school coach personality. He seems to genuinely care about the players... He does not have the pro-level coach feel. I think the only players that he will miss out on because of his style are those that are looking for a business relationship, not an new uncle.
Miles may screw the clock thing up often. He makes no since when he speaks sometimes. He doesn't do the text book plays that coaching 101 says must be done. Miles has iron balls the size of grapefruit and is not afraid to go all in. He will take the risk of being wrong to win. In the testosterone fueled world of college football this makes him a god to the young men who play for him. Kids that age are risk takers who want to go for the glory every time. Miles does the unthinkable often. Tight azz coaches try to limit risk. Miles thrives on taking risk and his players love it.
You are correct. I found his statement of, "I don't think I do anything different than 50-60 Highschool coaches in this state do", interesting. On one hand you could look at it in the sense that he doesn't have the college football mentality he should, or you could look at it as what he meant by it, in that, you see a lot of crazy coaching calls in HS and to him if they do it why shouldn't it be done at the college level.
Over the years I've questioned some of Les' decisions, tactics, use of players, etc. But this year even though I might say or write something in the heat of the moment, but after some time and I think about it, I wouldn't want anybody but The Hat as the LSU HC. And here's another reason why most of us feel that way about Les. Hero undergoes another surgery following shooting - WAFB Channel 9, Baton Rouge, LA |
Thanks for posting that. Makes me appreciate Les even more. We are lucky to have a head coach who is not only good, but a good man. I hope Mr. Cangelosi recovers and takes Les up on his offer. Did they catch the scumbag who shot him?
What's that saying about crazy and genius being closely related? He's just crazy enough to be a damn good football coach.
Does anyone think with all the heat miles has taken he may leave for a fresh start somewhere else like the Dallas or head for the mountians
Then I guess your answer to the question is yes he is crazy, because he would have to be crazy to leave for either of those 2 gigs.
