I to think JJ's talent is suspect. Can he get out the high school mode of being the best player on the field, so I can do anything and get away with it? I also hope the time management classes JJ and fellow student LM took this summer will show up in 2010. No matter what I will always be a tiger fan. As the saying goes " I bleed purple & gold".
This is a valid concern. However I don't think his talent is suspect, it's his mindset. If he learns to settle down and trust his O-line this year rather than trying to make the plays himself by rolling out and scrambling with the thought in mind that he could get away with it, then he'll be ok. It is understandable however, that after the beatings he took last year JJ may have problems trusting that O-line until they can prove they're better. In the O-line's defense, it doesn't matter how good the line is. If the QB can't find a target or decide what to do in 3 seconds then someone's going to get back there. Won't be long 'til we start getting some answers.. :thumb: Welcome to the forum btw.. :geaux:
:911:I stand corrected. Wrong choice of words. My friends talk about his vision all the time. I totally agree with the trust and the 3 second rule. I have been reading for a long time now. Finally made a profile to speak up. It's so hard to believe in something so much then get let down. I have learned to breathe when excited. I think I get more geeked up for the recruiting then the actual season.
you know it's funny that you say that because at the end of this past season i made it a point to remind my friends that the recruiting season was more exciting than the previous season so don't fret that football season is over. Yeah, JJ needs to make decisions faster. If he does that, gets O Line help, and help from his receivers and running game, our offense SHOULD be fine.
JJ, Crowton, and the O-Line all deserve blame for the sacks allowed. JJ definitely stepped into sacks last year by taking too big of a drop. The interior portion of the O-line was awful so his fears of stepping up in the pocket are reasonable. Crowton should have realized early in the season that JJ wasn't comfortable in the pocket so he should have called designed roll outs or not have called so many deep routes w/o any dump off options. JJ might not be good enough to carry us without a running game, but I do believe he is a capable QB with a productive O-line.
I understand JJ is going through Archie Manning and son's quaterback camp this summer. Joining Archie at Nicholls St. this go around is Ryan Mallett, A Luck (Stanford), Ponder (Florida St.), Kellen Moore (Boise St.), Andy Dalton (TCU), Jerrod Johnson (Texas A&M ), and returning for a senior season at the helm of Alabama for his second go round G-Mac. McElroy really excelled last time and came away feeling the camp helped him improve dramatically. You can see why Bama sent him back for an encore. Maybe JJ gets a dose of something the OC hasn't been able to instill. It could be the gift that just keeps giving.
McElroy came into Alabama from a High School program that lived on throwing the ball. Todd Dodge and Southlake Carroll did a good job at preparing their quarterbacks for the next level. Chase Daniel, and McElroy, Riley Dodge threw the ball alot, but just didn't have the size to be a quarterback at the next level. So i don't really think that is a fair comparison, considering Jefferson didn't run a pro style offense in high school, and probably had to depend on his legs alot more than his arm.
Yes, but why wouldn't the camp help JJ? The camp is all about fundamentals and has a who's who list of Quarterbacks and recievers. 3 All-Pro QB's running the show and other All-pro NFL players volunteering their time, hey that ain't no b-movie. JJ and Greg are probably out having a beer as we speak, telling each other how good the others team is. I'm just a congenital kind of guy. :milesmic:
