rohan rode the pine b/c he was a fat slob and didnt look so hot in practice. as luck would have it, we've learned fat qbs are the best and he became the best qb in LSU history. still is. :wink:
That isn't the way I remember it. Davey was coming of a knee injury and wasn't ready at the beginning of the season. Nall had a high ankle sprain and couldn't practice so he fell behind then transferred. After the UAB debacle, Booty was set down and Rohan led us to the Tennessee victory where he was dinged again. Booty replaced him, played well enough to win several SEC games, and beat Bama in Tiger Stadium for the first time in thirty years. Booty and the Tigers played poorly vs Arkansas and fans, including myself, couldn't understand why Davey didn't get another chance. We played terrible in the first half of the Peach Bowl vs Georgia Tech. Booty was benched at the half, Davey came in and played one of the best halves of football of any quarterback in LSU history.
Remember the Arkansas game in 1999 ? Booty gets benched, enter Rohan. He ends up going 10 of 12 for 224 yards with three touchdown passes of 67, 60 and 48 yards. That was a fun game to be at. Jerry D wasn't coaching the team at that point, one of the assistants was if memory serves me correctly. I'll also never forget Ro's performance in the 2002 Sugar Bowl against Illinois. 31 of 53 for 444 yards with no picks and three TD passes. That first half was incredible. DD had a very good game running the ball. Devery Henderson was still a running back and saw some action at the end of the game.
hal hunter. did davey ever do well without josh reed? i cant remember, but i do remember how reed made a living on catching underthrown passes.
i thought that the smart move was to play bad baseball for a year and keep the signing bonus. i dont know if he was stupid for giving up the money or just gutsy.
