That 3rd down play was the one, above all others, that makes my ex-football coach dad shake his head. And he was supportive of Lee--to that point. I do think Jefferson should've seen a little pt on Saturday, and I'll tell you when I would've tried him out. After the pick six near the end of the half, we had the ball back with very limited time. I would've put Jefferson in to either hand off the ball or run the ball himself. I felt like we could've used a change of pace at that point, and Lee could've used some time to...hmm...reflect...
I wouldn't be surprised if the coaching staff told him to avoid contact whenever possible due to our QB situation. If that were the case, then I'd have so say I agree with that decision. While it opens it up for everybody's favorite person, JJ, it would leave us without a backup QB. On that particular play, I don't think he felt like he could get it without taking a shot and we were not in a "have-to" situation at that point.
Fair enough, but he 1) should've tossed it to KW early in the play, but decided to keep it, and 2) he barely managed to get it out of bounds, and the way it was thrown cold easily have been yet another int.
WHAT????? Lets just start playing two hand touch then. You play to win the game! If our coaches are telling him to play that way...our coaches are out of their freaking minds.....this season is OVER....and we will NOT make a bowl game!
So you don't think that's anywhere even in the realm of possibility? You think winning this one game is more important to them than the possibility of being reduced to JUST ONE quarterback - who happens to be a true freshman? A compromise, then: Maybe they told him not to take any unneccessary risks and to use good judgement and he took it farther than they intended. Maybe they are happy with his decision not to tuck it and maybe they aren't. Either way, I still wouldn't be surprised to hear that he was told to be extra careful.
THANK YOU. I would be very disappointed if I found out the coaching staff told him to wimp out. You play to win. This is freaking football! I watched the replay last night and there was no one close. He could've slid for a first. If he was going to get hit by some chance, it wouldn't have been some bone shattering shot. I think he is throwing poorly because he doesn't want to get hit, so he throws way too early and his feet are a mess. That was arguably the worst play of the game.
I'm just saying they probably told him something that effect before the game even started, and it got into his head. The coaches are probably just as disappointed with him pulling up in that particular situation as we are. What they said: "Don't take any unneccessary hits". What he heard: "Don't take any hits".
