if it were not for these 3 plays, this would have been a huge beatdown.

Play # 1 - Roughing the Punter. You make the penalty, bring a tired defense back on the field and give UNC's only 1st half TD.

Play #2 - Holding Call that brought back the Ridley TD run, that would have given us a 37-10 lead late in the 2nd half and given LSU more momentum

Play #3 - A blown assignment on a 97 yd touchdown pass that WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO THIS DEFENSE AGAIN??

Then there are the unusual fumbles, the unusual missed FG. I know, I know, this is why we play the games. BUT, If Jasper would have hit his field goal and we wouldnt have roughed the passer and there was no holding call, thats a 40-3 game rather than 30-10.

Also......There was another critical fumble that stopped another LSU scoring drive. So lets assume, 47-3 or 43-3........

What if PP, would not have been averaging over 30 yds on every return, would we have had the ball on O longer? Controlling TOP, seeing more offensive production? Or more 3 and outs...

Would we have been less conservative with the play calling? Would JJ have thrown for 300yds and 3 td's.... Would Ridley have broken the 100 yd mark on rushing???

All in All - I think so. After watching the game a 2nd time.

BUT, I am not ignorant, I am not blind, we f*cked up, we made some stupid stupid stupid penalty's, play calls, and did not execute. We were going for big hits rather than wrapping up the ball carriers, we were going for interceptions rather than playing lock down, and we didnt execute on offense showing anybody we can control the clock, and move the chains.

I will take the win, I want to see some major improvements, I am a little dis-appointed, but I am still a believer in JJ, and Miles. I still believe this team can compete for the SEC title this year. AND I AM NOT GOING BASH ANY OF OUR PLAYERS!! This is who we have and if we want to enjoy LSU football, we have to deal with it or wait until something chains.

I dont know about you guys, but I love LSU football, even though I am disappointed and have been for the last 2 hopefully not 3 seasons, I understand, we are a beatable football team, and we have a punter for a reason, because we cant score touchdowns every series

I hope to God, we get up early by 3 or 4 tds against Vandy, and Les Brings in J-Lee, and lets him loose so we can all answer the JJ/JL what if questions. Is also like to Ford Play ball too

i looked it up last night.

our time of possession during that stretch where we scored 21pts was 1:39.
1:12 of which was on the drive where Murphy fumbled.

during that same stretch, UNC had a TOP of 5:46 with no points.

No question, our penalties allowed UNC the opportunities to claw back into the game, taking some momentum and then surging to the finish when WE lost the momentum.

I don't think it's out of the ordinary to believe that Ridley might very well find himself on the sideline more against Vandy. With Miles' track record for benching ball carriers that have trouble protecting the football (KW), I would be surprised if Ridley has 19 carries against Vandy. ...not unless we're up BIG and our backups are in the game.

I can tell you one thing, there would be a whole lot of running after practice by quite a few players this week...

Do you think if we didnt score on 2 huge plays, but rather drove the football picking up big first downs and eating up clock, all of our fans would be happier with JJ and Crowtons Play Calling?

So do you feel we showed improvements from last season on offense?

I do, and if ridley cant hold on to the ball, lets see a big dose of Ford against Vandy!!! Lets see Shep line up back there more and for the love of God can we see Russell Shepard throw 1 PASS???

PLEASE CROWTON, we just want to see him throw ONE PASS!!!!!!

right on! i agree with everything up to the part that i put in bold. we need to get our starters comfortable and on the same page before j.lee comes in, i'm not so sure that the vandy game will give us the opportunity for this -- but, like if you said, we get up by 3-4 touchdowns, then perhaps. maybe if our game would have ended up like you just pointed out, then i'd agree that we should get j.lee in ASAP to get him comfortable with the first-stringers. right now, i say we may need to wait until miss state.

but great post! a lot of LSU fans (and other schools' fans) keep giving me crap about how UNC was depleted. that's hogwash, their schemes were impressive and their backups are probably better than most teams' first-stringers. they were playing behind NFL talent. so the top 20 team that we played was minus a few starters, i bet they'd beat the HELL out of jacksonsville state or arkansas state. ole miss LOST to a 1-aa JSU and auburn gave up 26 friggin points to ark st. come on guys! we beat a legitimate BCS team here.

no. our fans would find something else to complain about.

    example:
my neighbor spend most of last year complaining that LSU lost it's big play ability. said we can't get a quick score from anywhere on the field anymore.

saturday night, his complaint was "yeah but if not for a couple of big plays, we only scored 9pts"

    +1 - All Day

I know good football, I watched good football saturday night.

Butch Davis needs to be proud of the way those guys stepped up, and Carter & Sturd. Played Great and were in on 2 key fumbles.

TJ Yates played lights out, UNC Fans should be very excited about this guy this year, he stepped up thu all the bs calling for his head!

LSU played good football, should and could have played a lot better.....but they escaped a scare and as PP said in the post game, they recognize it and will learn from it!

yates performed like you want a fifth-year senior to perform. they also had nothing to lose by throwing it up 40+ times. i truly believe that if we lobbed the ball downfield that often, we could have similar numbers. again, this is just play calling. it just so happened to work against a tired LSU defense, but UNC will need to be more balanced in the future. it was a first game for both teams, but i don't think UNC is going to be passing for 400 yards every game. granted 100 of those were on a blown coverage, missed assignment on LSU's part, but overall i liked our defense. there is only room for improvement.
