CParso, you don't like Jhyryn Taylor's game? I'm surprised. I think he's an incredible athlete. Both he & Brandon. His film is very impressive IMO. I'm hoping if he doesn't qualify, we can bring him in next year like Shomari Clemons.
No we aren't slipping. We just got 3 huge commits in past 2 days. Miles is pulling great talent from home, as well as out of state. Urban Meyer right now has 4 commits, but should do fine. Saban simply has more talent in his state this year. I see LSU finishing anywhere between #8 & #15
It's not that I don't like him. There's just other WRs that I would prefer. I agree he's a very good athlete, and the fact that he's the player I'm least excited about speaks volumes about the current class we have.
Someone kinda touched on this, but I thought I'd elaborate...for the benefit of the thread starter. This early in the recruiting season, the recruits haven't played their senior season of HS. If we're so impressed by them already, you can bet that their *'s will rise. First of all...the fact that the guys we're getting commits from are also being offerred from the likes of AU, Bama, UF, OU, OSU, TX, et al. The fact that they committed to a school like that...or LSU in these cases...often automatically makes their * rating go up. Come December, I bet the guys we've gotten commits from now will be rated higher. CParso...plz go check out the thread about # of schollies...and see if you can answer that querstion...thanks in advance.
all you have to know is, if you're a star gazer and get off on that and all, is that last year we set a record for most 4* and above players ever signed by any team in a single year (all but 1 qualified btw)...so you have to ask yourself, did the staff forget how to recruit in one year? Did they forget what a highly ranked athlete looks like? Did they get them into camp (like they've done every year) and decide to offer the wrong people (while rivals and scout are going on film, at best)? Unless you have no common sense, the simple solution here is to just relax and know that this staff knows wtf they are doing - and that rivals and scout, to a lesser extent, do not. There are no big subscriber bases in La for these services - they have no reason to come down here and evaluate recruit after recruit until they get it right like in Ca, Tx, Fl, etc (and even now bama has the fastest rising subscriber base so they cater to those money-paying people by giving them something to be interested in). The more 'big names' a state has, the more money they get from subscribers eager to find out if their school will get them. They can only have so many 'big time recruits' in their database (or they get watered down)..so the biggest of the big stars go to the biggest of the big subscriber bases. Only in the case of unbelievably talented players that anyone can see a mile away (mcknight, jones, woods, rp, etc) does La. get the 5*s. That is just the way it is, and until our HS coaches learn to film these kids and market them to rivals and scout very early on, it won't change because there is not reason for it to change from the top (via subscriber base #s) down.
so the answer is...no, we aren't slipping In fact this year is not even down year for talent...it is likely one of the more deep talent pools La has had in a long time. There is only a perception that it's down because there is no huge name - but there will be a ton of D1 signees this year.
I wasn't real excited about Rocky when he first committed. However, he's did very good at LSU's camp. He can line up at either LB or Safety, and he's a fast & hard hitting.
