no doubt, between him, al woods, and charles alexander i don't know who im the most happy about graduating. probably alem, kind of got used to alexander since he has been here since the 80's. Why was Woods such a bust? Was he just not looked at right in high school? Did he play in a small class where he was just way bigger than anyone else making him look dominant, because i think he was a 5 star coming out of high school.
Happens all the time, some kids just don't live up to the hype for various reasons. Woods wasn't a bad DL he just was no where close to what he was supposed to be, same for Nevis and several other Tigers in the past few years. It's time for a run of good luck with a couple of Booger McFarlands and a few Glenn Dorseys. Wouldn't hurt to have a Marcus Spears or two thrown in there either. Hopefully the new staff will develop some of the very talented youngsters we picked up in the last recruiting class.
Woods problem was he didn't listen until this year. He felt he could over power O linemen, as he did in high school. He had to learn to get low or under O linemen. It took him a while to learn that. Not sure if he was able to progress; however, Haley was attempting to get him to do that - get under O lineman and handle them.
I wouldn't say any of them are done, but questions remain. Did they actually have the potential that there high recruiting rank would make you think? Did they just not put in the proper work to reach their potential? Were they poorly coached? Did injuries slow their progress? Did the light just never come on? The answers to all those questions are purely speculation on our part. I've seen many can't miss pro prospects fail miserably in the NFL while guys you never dreamed would make it thrive at the next level. All I know for a fact is that we need some studs on the DL to produce soon.
Nevis and Downs should be a pretty dynamic duo. Davenport in there in the middle when we run our 3-4 looks and to spell Nevis/Downs. Especially if Hicks is on the team next year.. will be nice. Our DL should be a step up.. and whoever starts at DE will be an upgrade over Alem. Sam Montgomery should get some solid playing time too.
This. It's especially frustrating since it seems that LSU has had an unusual number of players in recent years who for various reasons never lived up to their billing. A few you can attribute to bad luck, but with all the linemen that have come and gone since Dorsey, it makes you start to wonder what's going on.
We watched our prospect Jordan Allen play in the Dome over the weekend. This kid probably will not play for a couple years, but with the right coaching he may be a force to recon with. 6-6 large frame, long arms, he keeps lineman off of him and looks really intelligent. I think he has a good grasp of the game. He was a little dinged up and played in spurts, but what I saw I liked.:thumb:
