No, and he shouldn't. He did the one thing that is posted in EVERY SINGLE MLB locker room not to do - or risk banishment from the game. Boo hoo, Pete. Pete Rose is a lying degenerate and I have no idea why anyone still likes or supports him. For the record, I find nothing offensive about a young, rich athlete doing drugs with strippers/call girls.
No way pete should get in to the HOF... Michael Irvin could have celebrated every win by flying to indo-china and doing blow off a 12 year old male hookers azz and it wouldn't call into question the integrity of the game itself. When a player/coach/official is betting on the games they are involved in it does that. If you start having to worry about a manager putting in a gas can reliever because he has 50K riding on the game and needs to give up a few runs then it's no better than WWE.
the question is how do YOU know? innocent until proven guilty, right? he said he did and I believe him. I mean, he admitted it already, so why would he not admit to everything? it's not like he has anything to lose. he's already not in the hall.
if he bet against his team, then yeah, fry his ass, but betting on your team because you believe in them and you think they will win. there is nothing wrong with that imo. what will it do to hurt integrity? make your players play harder? it's not like he was changing the outcome in any way. If he ever did that, then yes, fry him, but he didn't do that. he had 4,000 freaking hits and teammates say he never bet as a player, so why can we not vote him in as a PLAYER. This has nothing to do with him being the manager of the Reds.
He was a player/manager with the Reds. So yeah, he bet as a player. He also played himself in front of far more talented and youthful players (Eric Davis) so that he could chase Ty Cobb's record. ANY TIME YOU BET ON THE SPORT THAT YOU PARTICIPATE IN IT HURTS THE INTEGRITY AND POTENTIALLY AFFECTS THE OUTCOME. That's why every single player since the fcking Black Sox scandal has been made aware that being caught carries a lifetime ban. Good riddance.
Just watched it. VERY impressive and powerful speech from Michael Irvin. Wow. He's made some mistakes along the way, but it seems like his struggles with such demons are unusually human and real. Addiction and just bad choices can haunt any of us. Irvin always seems sincere in his desire to be a better man.
I really like Michael Irvin. He has had problems like all of us (well, maybe more severe) but he admits to them and still does well in life. He was a great player and teammate. Very good speech.
