Iran itself is a threat, to that entire region and the rest of democracy. How many times have they threatened to "wipe Isreal off the map"? They need to have a close eye on them at all times.
But they can't and aren't even close. Not to mention the regurgitation of a false quote keeps up the fear-mongering.
Their geographic location puts them in reach of a lot of countries. They are a very extremist and volitile group. I think history (Vietnam, Korea, Germany) is enough to justify our presence around them to keep them in check. We are not invading them. Also, I've seen some maps that would put this one to shame. You would **** if you saw everything in that area. Bottom line: We are not meddling in their internal business, but we do have a presence around them to say "don't fcuk with anyone else". I have absolutely no issue with this.
Talking loudly and making threats DOES NOT constitute Iran being a threat to anybody. They have a poor army, air force, and navy, without top-notch equipment or training. Their last war was a snowballing disaster that lasted ten years and they lost to Iraq badly, losing millions of men in suicide charges hollering for Allah. Iran is posturing for the region that they live in which is populated by nuclear armed Russia, India, Pakistan, and Israel. Others neighbors include Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates who are allies of and host the military forces of the United States. The US 5th fleet controls the Persian Gulf. There are more Americans in the 'stans, including ground troops, airpower assets and special forces. They a e under harsh international sanctions that cripple their economy. They have serious internal unrest issues and another revolution is likely in the next 5-10 years. Their only friend is Syria and the terrorist organizations in palestine that they control--Hamas and Hezbollah. All three organizations are in serious trouble. Syria is facing an open insurgency and the terror groups have lost major support. Israel alone can handle a war with Iran. Iran is capable of attacking and invading exactly nobody. It is why they bluster so loudly. There are seriously afraid of the combined military power of their neighbors and they should be. The loud threats and nuclear program are entirely defensive in nature and can be safely ignored as the rants of a third world wannabe. All we have to do with Iran is pressure them politically, deprive them economically, embarrass them regularly ( like making it obvious that we enter their airspace at will), and covertly encourage dissenters from within (and there are many). We are doing all of these things and playing Iran like a sucker.
at what point do we take them seriously? after they drop a nuke in a suitcase in an airport somewhere? after they (with what little of a military they have) launch a strike on someone? after they threaten to wipe 5 more countries off the map? Never underestimate your enemy
I think we are screwed, I think another world war is on the way. Just saw in the news how China is stealing our technology blind with all of the computer hackers breaking into our systems everyday. They are at it every second of the night and day!
Now China and Russia.. And you guys thought I was the conspiracy theory advocate.. hahaha We might as well go to war with everyone.
