"Newt Gingrich made between $1.6 million and $1.8 million in consulting fees from two contracts with mortgage company Freddie Mac, according to two people familiar with the arrangement."

"The total amount is significantly larger than the $300,000 payment from Freddie Mac that Gingrich was asked about during a Republican presidential debate on Nov. 9 sponsored by CNBC, and more than was disclosed in the middle of congressional investigations into the housing industry collapse."

"Gingrich’s business relationship with Freddie Mac spanned a period of eight years."

Gingrich Said to Be Paid $1.6M by Freddie Mac - Bloomberg

Saw that this morning. I'm just confused as to what the problem is. He wasn't in office and was offering consulting services to Freddie Mac. Can the guy not go out and make money?

Freddie and Fannie are failed models. He was obviously paid for lobby services. He can call in consultant crap all he wants.

    So?

I said he was the smartest guy in the room. You countered that point with the fact that he has a **** eating grin, which I would concede. One has nothing to do with the other.

He disparaged Paul Ryan’s budget plan, which House Republicans embraced en masse, as “right-wing social engineering” and “too big a jump.”

In 2005, he said he and Hillary “have the same instinct” on health care and praised the notion of a health-care “transfer of finances” from rich to poor. “I risk sounding not quite as right wing as I should,”

Gingrich has appeared with John Kerry and conceded that humans have contributed to global warming, saying, “We should address it very actively.” He complained about “the absence of American leadership” on climate change, pitched incentives to reduce carbon emissions and said: “I am not automatically saying that coercion and bureaucracy is not an answer.” He has called for a “green conservatism.”

The Tea party will never support Gingrich if they realize how moderate he has been.

He said in 08 he would have voted for the TARP bailout. Yah that is pretty smart.
