My loyalty and gratitude to coach Miles was fully established in Dec. of 2007. I woke up on the day of the SEC championship game against Tennessee thinking that CLM was going to depart LSU for Michigan as soon as the SEC championship game ended that day. The previous week I thought our national championship hopes had gone down the drain when we lost to Arkansas 50-48 in triple overtime. It looked like we weren't even going to win the SEC championship because Matt Flynn was not playing due to injury. Miles came out before the game and announced he was LSU's coach and his "damn fine football team" had a game to win. Ryan Perrilloux led LSU over Tennessee 21-14 to win the SEC championship. Missouri and WVU lost that same day, and LSU got a chance to win it's second BCS championship weeks later against Ohio State. I always liked Les Miles, but from that day on, he has been my all time favorite LSU football coach. I hope he remains here until he retires. It's nice to see Alabama apologists like Finebaum acknowledging what we've known for years. :LSU231: :crystal:
Good article but I don't think Miles' career hinged in that particular play. A Bama fan might want to believe that they're that important.
Check out his article from September saying JoePa needed to go. Dude didn't know how right he was. Joe Paterno has been great for Penn State, but it's time to retire - Paul Finebaum - SI.com
