If it costs other schools money it's going to cost us as well. I guess eventually we'll see where the ceiling is and who is the most desperate.
We're already in an arms race; if we go after Saban, how much you think Bama is willing to up the ante? Ohio State doesn't want to lose Meyer with Harbaugh making waves. I'm all for spending money (highly paid staff is important, too), just need to be smart about it. Herman is an aggressive smart hire with some risk. Saban is an aggressive dumb hire with little risk, but if he doesn't win NCs immediately we'll be double pissed and Bama will have moved on with a multi-multi millionaire coach. Try to buy low, not high. That doesn't mean Joe Dean bargain basement hires.
Saban and Meyer aren't going to come to LSU regardless. But I think $5M/yr would get Herman here, and be well worth the money. I bet he'd win at least 10 games a yr here, and have LSU in SECC and Playoff talks in most years.
